The Curious Expedition Greek Translation - Part 47 (~ 1118 words)

in #utopian-io5 years ago (edited)

Current Session

As you may have noticed, I am seriously back in action with this whole translations thing. Steem price too low? Utopian-io votes not so appealing at the moment? @trumpman doesn't care. Even if steem hits negative prices, I am here to stay! Steemit activity is so low at the moment, it makes @trumpman smile. It's easy to hang around when the money tree is blooming. But when it's time for the tree to rest everybody is like, f** you tree. Guess what? I cherish the tree all year round.

After all, a man has to do what he has to do. And in this case, a man promised to translate "The Curious Expedition" and the man will deliver.

(Yeah, I am a bit drunk!)

Ok, now back to the current session. Guess what? It was again a super easy translation. Just have a look at the strings below which are just a small taste of what I dealt with during this session:

Arctic Explorer

[We should study their culture.|If only London could see this.|We have to spread knowledge about this tribe.]

Aviator

Yes, it's the Yeti.

Symptoms include nausea, diarrhea, vomitting and headaches.

Yep, child's play!

And like with many of my previous translations, I inserted a few original strings of my own here and there (always making sure they fit with the context provided) as the devs give us the liberty to do so!

Now, let me conclude with a small taste of the music I enjoyed while preparing this contribution:

That's all folks!

Project Details

The Curious Expedition is a rogue-like expedition simulation set in the 19th century. It's the first game by indie developer Maschinen-Mensch. The game is available on Steam, GOG, Humble Store and at the official homepage http://curious-expedition.com. The game has been regularly updated through out the last 2 years. A list of all the updates can be found here. For information on modding the game, go here . [source and more info]

Gameplay

And here's what I believe to be the official trailer:

Why Did I Choose This Project?

Well, to be honest, I chose this project because all the other options were applications with boring names like Freecad and Jabref. I thought it would be fun (edit: less boring) to translate a game instead. And thank god... I was right!

I am sure my team members are very jealous that I get to translate strings like "Let's eat", "Giant tortoise", "I feel happy and sad", and "Oh my god" while they get to translate stuff like "resolving duplicate keys", "Port Design", "Constraining modifier key" and "Corrugated elements"... LOL!

Too bad for them, now they have to live with the choices they have made....MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

Contribution Specifications

  • Translation Overview: This is a really large project, approximately 80.000 words and obviously it's gonna take me a while to finish. In each part I plan to translate anywhere from 700 to 1200 words. For the most part, the translation is very easy as there are few, if any, technical terms.
  • Languages: The project is being translated from English to Greek.
  • Word Count: According to Crowdin, for Part 47# I translated 1118 words, for a total of 48105 translated words. Since most of the strings translated were part of the in-game dialogues there were only a handful (1, maybe 2%) that were left in the original language, e.g. screenshot.

A shout-out goes of course to the other brilliant members of the Greek team: @katerinaramm, @lordneroo and of course the one and only @trumpman. A special shoutout of course goes to @trumpman2, I would be nothing without his constant support and guidance!

And last but not least, a big thank you goes to DaVinci and Utopian for keeping this project alive, running and developing!

Thank you for contributing to the Davinci-Utopian translation project @trumpman!
This was the 47th part for the “Curious Expedition” project and your 50th contribution to the translation category in total.

To quote a part of my comment on your first part of this project:
You are currently working on the Curious Expedition, a game that, even though it may not contain difficult terms and vocabulary, is one of the biggest projects a member of our team has ever tried to work on (almost 80,000 words). Good luck on this difficult task!
When you started translating, a handful of strings were already submitted (but not approved or voted) by another translator irrelevant to the Davinci-Utopian project. You have gone through them and checked them for any corrections that needed to be made, you have even fixed a few of them that were problematic.

This was another very good translation coming from you, @trumpman! I jumped to review it as soon as you told me that you were done proofreading it and making any corrections you wanted to fix yourself. I can say I just checked a solid good piece of more than 1100 words with correct grammar and syntax and accurate meanings. There were no weird formatting details you had to pay attention to this time, which made your job (and mine too) quite easier.

Your contribution post is also very good, detailed, well-formatted, enjoyable to read and written in good English. You know how I appreciate the personal touch of a contributor in every contribution post I read.

All in all, you have done great one more time! Well done!

PS: No matter the prices, we will still be here to support projects we believe in!
