More Farmers Market Meals! {Plus a View from Above}

in #vegan5 years ago

Happy Monday my friends! I've been slacking a bit on sharing some yummy food posts, so it was a toss up what I was finally going to get a chance to bring to the table today. Since the farmers market is still providing such killer vegetables right now, there's no better way to start out the week than with a whole bunch of fresh produce! I also have some different views to share of where the weekly farmers market is held. We usually hit the Marietta Square at street level, but on Friday evening we got invited by some friends to come hang out for a free concert. An acquaintance of theirs works the bar at Brew with a View.

Not a bad view, right? Though the weather has been quite hot already, the evening was actually quite nice with a cool breeze and the sun just starting to go down. This view is from the top floor balcony of an old theater right on the square where they do private events and apparently open it up on Friday evenings like this in the spring and summer! The next photo overlooks where they had the band set up (they're across the street on the covered stage), but also it's the street where just hours later the farmers set up in the morning for the market. Kind of fun to see it from a different perspective!

The band was pretty much a typical cover band, but they played some fun music to get everyone going. I don't often love going places with such big crowds, however the balcony actually stayed pretty sparse for most of the time we were there. We hung out for a few hours, but left shortly after our friends went to grab a bite to eat. I had plenty of goodies for us at home, so no need to eat out this weekend. We did catch the sunset before we made our way back to the car to head home!

The next morning it was time to head back over to hit up the farmers market as usual! Though the farmers are having a bit of a tough time with the current drought we are in, they are busting their humps to keep everything irrigated and healthy to bring the best produce around for us to enjoy. We're in that wonderful in-between time now where there is still some of the spring varieties producing their last little bit, but also the summer stuff is coming in hot!

Not wanting to miss out on any of the good stuff, I just about bought a little bit of everything. 🤦‍♀️ I'm a bit of a maniac, but we will enjoy every last bite! I love that most of the farmers will share some of what they are bringing on IG or FB so I know which booths to hit first when there's something I really have my eye on. This week the first of the heirloom tomatoes and Roma beans were high on the list.

Of course I couldn't resist some more patty pan squash, as well. They are getting huge! I don't have small hands, in case you were wondering.

Saturday night I whipped up a super easy meal to make use of some of the tomatoes and beans while they were so fresh. The Roma beans I cooked on the stove top over medium heat for about 10 minutes, adding a few teaspoons of miso mixed in water for a little glaze at the end of cooking. The tomatoes are so darn good we just ate them sliced fresh!

I cooked long grain brown rice with a mixture of chili powder, ground turmeric, and ground cumin for a bit of flavor. I had also recently gotten some new delicious balsamic vinegars, so I used Garlic Cilantro White Balsamic to marinate sliced tempeh before also cooking on the stove top. That was delicious!

Last night @dksart stepped in to do some grilling. I made simple burgers with the pink eye peas I bought at the market for him to cook up along with the patty pan and onion. I made up some tasty black bean dip to go on top of the burgers along with a rare treat of vegan cheese. To finish out the meal a nice raw slaw of Napa cabbage, mango, bell pepper, broccoli sprouts and jalapeno with lime juice and another fruity vinegar was a perfect crunchy side!

Definitely not a bad way to start out the week! I'm back in the kitchen today to make some tofu scramble and a soup to finish out my meal prep for the week. Fingers crossed we might finally get to go do some more fresh fruit picking tomorrow! Blackberries and blueberries have started, so hopefully they'll have plenty left for us to go tomorrow. The peaches have been iffy, but maybe we'll finally get lucky again.

Wishing you all a happy and healthy week ahead!

Who gonna eat them. Seriously looking the way it is served, I never want to spoil it, but it raises my hunger too...so best way to have them clicked and enjoy the delicies.

That's the beauty of pictures, right? We can enjoy beautiful meals and fruits even after we have enjoyed them in our bellies. :) I don't think I'll ever get tired of taking in the stunning qualities of fresh fruits and veggies! I never felt like an artist until I started working more with food.

It's good you had a nice day. The place look very crowded. I'm glad you got the goodies you wanted. So fresh and healthy! Regards honey!

It was packed! Glad we had a nice view from above so we didn't have to squeeze in with all those people. It was probably cooler where we were, too. The farmers market is one of my favorite places! Doesn't feel like a Saturday without going. :)

🎁 Hi @plantstoplanks! You have received 0.1 SBD tip from @tattoodjay!

@tattoodjay wrote lately about: Monochrome Monday Across The East River Feel free to follow @tattoodjay if you like it :)

Sending tips with @tipU - how to guide :)

You are such an expert to combine so many things together, so I don;t know what to comment on first, lol. But I guess it must be the food...............all the amzing veggies from Farmer's Market and the meals you prepared with @dksart! Everything looks mouthwatering! And I look forward to your post with all those berries. We have long way to go here, lol. 😍

Thank you Lena! I guess that's one of the great things about shopping locally and seasonally--you really can't go wrong with any combination! Though I have to say the beans with the miso were quite delicious. I'm going to have to do that again soon. Keep your fingers crossed for us that we can actually go tomorrow! They still have some strawberries, but I'm pretty sure they will be done soon with the heat we're having. I got the blueberries from the market, but I'm salivating over fresh blackberries so I hope it works out!

You are truly blessed Katie! I am sure you get those blackberries too 🍇😍🍇

Wow! Those patty pan squash look amazing @plantstoplanks, yum! As for the tomatoes, I could eat those for a meal...alone with salt and pepper, lol My ultimate favorite summer lunch! Did I see artichokes in the pic as well? Will you grill those? Btw, that venue for the concert was perfect, especially with the birds eye view you had, love it! Have a wonderful week!

You may find it funny that I used to be intimidated by the patty pan! For some reason I thought they would be so different to regular squash, but I'm so glad I got over that. I think they are delicious now. :) Coincidentally I also never use to really like tomatoes (unless they were in a sauce or ketchup). That's probably because until about 6 or 7 years ago I hadn't had a fresh grown tomato in years. Once you go local, the ones in the grocery store pretty much taste like cardboard. These are so delicious I am doing just as you said because I can't bear to mess with their natural flavor! No artichokes, so not sure which veggie you were looking at. Those I am still intimidated by, too, but I'll attack them some day and get over that silly fear. ;)

Right on great start to the week. Good times with good views and a farmers market for good food.

The local produce is coming in via hothouse farms but the outdoor stuff won’t arrive for a while. Many of the farmers are having a tough time getting crops in the ground for the wet and cooler temps.

It will be great to hit a local farmers market like you.

And I didn't even mention the beer! Haha, I think I hinted at it with the name "Brew with a View" but forgot to mention one of the local breweries supplies the brews. A nice cold beer in hand enhanced the experience even more. ;)

Farming is really tough work. I hope the weather cooperates a little more so they can get their crops going for the season. We are still holding out for rain here. It barely dripped the other night, but it was the first of any kind of rain we've seen in weeks. Thank goodness for irrigation systems!

I'm currently refreshing my feed like a madwoman to see the announcement from the berry farm for the day to see if we finally get to go snag some fresh blueberries and blackberries! They usually post by 8 am if they're open for u-pick for the day, so I've got one more hour of impatience before I find out...😝

I love the season of fresh vegetables. When vegetables are only from the garden - they have a completely different taste.

Very true! So many more nutrients and the flavor of fresh-picked can't be beat!

Your posts always remind me to eat healthier!

Namaste, JaiChai

I'm happy to have that impact on you! Sharing with everyone actually helps me stay on track better, as well. :)

Very inspiring to see all the way you find to use the fresh veggies. We have an Amish community nearby that hosts a fresh market one day a week. I can't wait til they open up for the season, it should be soon!

Oh nice! Up near my boyfriend's parents in North Georgia they have an Amish market, as well. She always gets excellent stuff up there! You'll have to share some of what you get when they open up!
