Would you please help [MISSION: AGUA-POSSIBLE] buy a pump to bring water to families in Venezuela?

in #venezuela6 years ago (edited)

Week 4 of Mission Agua-possible! We're gathering Steem - equal to 1300 USD - to buy a pump for a neighborhood well. This will instantly provide years of clean drinking water for several families and a small farm in crisis-stricken Venezuela!

Background

Severe economic and political crisis over the past few years in the South American country of Venezuela intensified recently, as president Maduro doubled-down on strategies of currency manipulation, price-fixing, propagandizing citizens, and suppressing resistance. You may recall an attempted "drone attack" with explosives a couple months ago - that's Venezuela. But it's far worse than our media is telling us, in the rest of the world.

I met a few wonderful people from Venezuela, and I started to hear their stories - and ask questions. I discovered the dark truth about the economic and political situation there. Shops are empty, people are hungry, and the economy is at a standstill. Theft, violence, and corruption escalate as society breaks down. Millions are fleeing on foot - if they can escape. The harsh socialist government is attempting to control every aspect of life, and blaming the people for every problem. Most government services, including running water, work only in selected upscale areas - or not at all.

In the midst of all this, I met Edgar (@edgargonzalez), a Venezuelan man about my age. He's a father of young children, and a professional whose job disappeared because of the crisis. He feeds his family by fishing, foraging for fruits, and growing cassava on his late-father's plantation. Shortly after I met Edgar, a power outage caused a failure of the pump used to bring water up to the farm. A repairman confirmed: this time, the pump is beyond fixing. Edgar had been using his well to water his plants, and to provide drinking water to his children and other families in the neighborhood. Without a pump to bring water up from the aquifer below, the crops have withered - and the neighborhood must forage for water elsewhere.

Here's a photo of mi amigo Edgar, looking for any of his crop that has escaped the heat and thieves:

(His post about those 'guanabana' fruits can be found here. They're nutritious, medicinal, and he wishes he had more than 1 tree!)

Without government water services, and now without water from his well, Edgar and a few other families are in a dire situation. When I heard about this, through Steemit, I realized that Steemit could also be the SOLUTION!

That's when I stepped forward with Mission Agua-possible! Once we gather 1300 USD worth of Steem, I'll transfer it to Edgar, to be converted to cash to buy the pump.

Water is life! Getting water flowing on the farm as soon as possible is vital.

Stagnation

There was a solid community effort in week 1, generating about 36 Steem through a bunch of resteems and several generous upvotes. Since then, partly because of HardFork20, the threads haven't generated any buzz, and have actually been upvoted LESS than my average post (which is already very low). It seems I would be better off posting a picture of my lunch, than writing and editing these long posts with graphics and translations.

HF20 seems to have taken some of the power away from resteems - maybe that's why we can't recapture the momentum we began with?

We managed to get 19 accounts (mostly me and my wife) to upvote the post last week - thank you!

As I've said from the start, it's a matter of when, not if. This is happening. For the families and crops involved, the sooner the better! Thank you for your help getting this week's thread SEEN, which is how we'll get it solved. Eventually, the right person may find our cause, and help us with a boost.

Upvoting this post helps - thank you so much! 100% of the payout goes toward the pump.

Mission Agua-possible will help dozens, and inspire other projects that help thousands, making it a Steemit success story. Together, we'll make a huge improvement in the lives of a whole neighborhood that needs it RIGHT NOW!

Hi @drutter, I have chosen to buy a vote for this post. I know you are 100% organic, and I respect that alot, but I don't mind buying votes on occasions (just not from bid-bots) and wanted to support your efforts. I'll also organise a few small votes from some discord bots.

Best wishes,

John.

I appreciate that (especially your thoughtfulness). Gracias!

My pleasure @drutter. I will do something more during the week to raise the profile of your efforts. I'll get back to you with details. Are you on discord?

Thanks once again : )
I have discord but only turn it on once every couple days to check messages.

Hey @drutter, sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. I'm not able to do what I was hoping to to boost your cause along, sorry. Was going to spend some steem to promote this more, but I have had to sort out some of my own financial messes and can't put my money where my mouth is right now. You'll always get voted and re-steemed. Best of luck with it all. John.
