Last night, there was a television documentary about the humanitarian catastrophe that the Venezuelan situation has become. There were interviews of several individuals and families, including an unemployed petrochemical engineer who had worked at an oil refinery in Maracaibo and who had been reduced to eating waste food found on the streets. The man had been homeless and jobless for two years. There was a retired university professor who had suffered from power cuts at home, leading to days worth of food spoiling and who had trouble keeping her sick mother alive who needed oxygen from a tank because of her lung disease. There was a family, one of the children of which had been hit by a car and who needed proper medical care to recover from her injuries. A doctor at one of the major hospitals in the country was interviewed who said the patients are required to bring practically all supplies with them to get any treatment and that what the hospital had was a bed and a doctor who knew what should be done but what, more often that not, couldn't.

The impression of the country was that it's like Haiti after the earthquake. Nothing works but with the important difference that in Haiti the government wasn't actively trying to make things even worse. The documentary covered the situation at two border crossing points, facing Colombia and Brazil. At both borders, the government had ordered the military and the police to stop humanitarian aid transports and to destroy their cargo. Invaluable things like diabetes medicines were being disposed of by the truckloads. There were crowds trying to salvage what they could. Some soldiers and policemen were incapable of putting up with this. The film makers interviewed the family of one soldier who had been arrested and taken to a torture center. A relief organization was interviewed and they said they had been visited by government sponsored gunmen who had stolen things like anti-retroviral drugs from their stock.

I can understand that the Maduro regime wants to stay in power because they are rightfully in fear of being executed if they are brought down. But what I'm incapable of understanding why they stop humanitarian aid transports and destroy the content. I could understand theft. But not destruction of vital supplies. The military was caught on camera doing that. It was witnessed by thousands of people.

Friend @markkujantunen . I know you may not understand it and I understand it is not easy to accept a behavior like this, I can clarify many things just ask me I live it daily and that's the way it is.

Since January the power cuts are totally ordered by the criminals who are occupying positions in the government. As you well know, I am a professor at a university in Venezuela and just yesterday I went to dismiss a family of neighbors who managed to flee the country, in order to Really understand what happens in Venezuela you must live here, I always explain to my students that in Venezuela what governs is a very well organized group of criminals who steal all the wealth of the nation, everything you can imagine and what that you can not imagine they also steal it.

They are capable of everything you mention there and many worse things in my home we can not buy meat because my salary does not reach me the times I do it is thanks to steemit and I must buy only a little meat or just what will be consumed that day, lately sometimes we only have 4 or 6 hours a day of electricity.

Sick we can not do not, have to be able to cure a disease hospitals are in ruins and all that is because the government promotes it. It is the way to authorize resources to buy medical supplies to other countries and that is where the theft of resources occurs, of course with the help of those countries one of them is Cuba, Russia, China, Portugal.

The things that are happening in Venezuela are so bad that the number of suicides is increasing, in addition to the number of people that the government disappears on a daily basis, especially if one is an opponent.

Friend @markkujantunen

Everything you explain in this publication falls short of the reality we are living.
But we followed a few standing fighting

Government = Regime = Criminal... All Over The World. What one can see in medias is propaganda... as long one does not live there, he will not know what really is going on! You may ask yourself about Venezuela, but what about Palastine, Syria, Ukraine, Yemen, Burma, Nepal... and so on?!

Sure, lots of governments are corrupt. In fact, most of them are. I'm probably very fortunate in that I live in a country where local governments and the national government are relatively clean. In places like Venezuela, the situation is extremely dire and a serious threat to the well-being and even survival of millions.

the situation is extremely dire and a serious threat to the well-being and even survival of millions.

Thanks To The Government of the USA... Again. But that Is Okay!?

Go talk to Venezuelans about that.

You sound like yet another American conspiracy nut who thinks the US government is behind every evil in this world. I hope I'm wrong about you. In their own way, those people are an incredibly arrogant lot. Sometimes the US government meddles with the affairs of foreign countries in very harmful ways. But I find American anti-government conspiracy nuts part of the same continuum. They should stay out of commenting on business they do not understand and have no boots on the ground experience of. I have discussed the Venezuelan situation with Venezuelans here. They've got the usual kind of authoritarian populist regime in place that has long since stopped being the kind of populist movement that at least initially had to keep some of their promises but has morphed into a corrupt criminal enterprise bent on robbing the country blind and resorting to extreme violence to stay in power.

Go talk to Venezuelans about that.

I do.

You sound like yet another American conspiracy nut

In my experience, the first in a discussion to shift to ad hominem is the person with the weakest arguments.

Please excuse me to have responded to your post. I hope for you, one day you understand my point of view.

Then what was this: "Thanks To The Government of the USA... Again. But that Is Okay!?"
