Free Cyber Security Training for Veterans!!! Federal Virtual Training Environment (FedVTE) Overview

in #veteran6 years ago

Federal Virtual Training Environment (FedVTE) is an online cybersecurity training environment that is managed by the Department of Homeland Security’s Office of Cybersecurity & Communications, Cybersecurity Education and Awareness (CE&A) branch. FedVTE provides free online cybersecurity training to U.S. government employees, military personnel, federal contractors, and veterans. These courses start at beginner level and go all the way through expert level. No matter what your skill level is  FedVTE has something for you. Besides online training FedVTE also offers preparation courses for cybersecurity certifications offered by industry standard setting organizations such as CompTIA, ISACA, (ISC)² and many more.

To access the site and its training courses you must have a government or military email address. This means employees of the government, military and contractors with an official government or military email address can register at: https://fedvte.usalearning.gov/register.php

If you are veteran and do not have a government or military email address you will need to verify your veteran status and register at: https://hireourheroes.org/veterans-training

Upon verifying your veteran status you will be able to use your personal email address to set up a user account at the FedVTE site.

FedVTE provide 100s of training courses, and preparation courses for well-known cybersecurity certifications. There is no need to worry about outdated material because FedVTE is constantly updating their courses. For example the CompTIA Security+ training recently updated their course material and FedVTE updated the Security+ material the same day the new material was released. Lastly, FedVTE uses the  National Initiative for Cybersecurity Education (NICE) Framework to organize the courses they provide into eight categories. The NICE Framework provides a blueprint to categorize, organize, and describe cybersecurity work into Specialty Areas, tasks, and knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs).
