Welcome... to the Ben and Lauren Show!

Tonight we talk about our 7 year anniversary, our discussion over the past few days about Chanukkah and Lauren's Dairy-Free Turmeric Hot Chocolate!

Recipe:
1 cup unsweetened almond or coconut milk
2 Tbl coconut cream (can use real cream if you don't want to go dairy free)
1 tsp coconut oil
1 tsp turmeric
1/4 tsp cinnamon
1/8 tsp black pepper (can also use cayenne, but it's a LOT hotter)
1/8 - 1/4 tsp sea salt, to taste (we especially like Himalayan pink salt in situations like this if we can get it)
1/2 tsp vanilla
2 Tbl cocoa
1 - 2 tsps raw honey, depending on sweetness preference (can always adjust later)

Whisk all ingredients together and heat over low heat while continuing to whisk (this incorporates the fats with the almond milk).

Note: Lauren is staying away from sugar, so the compromise is to make most of this unsweetened and then to put the honey in Ben's cup and about 1/2 tsp Pyure in Lauren's (she also often adds about 1 tsp of integral collagen). That, of course, is a double recipe while what's given here is a single.

If you like your hot chocolate foamy, this type gets a pretty rich, thick foam from all the fats if you give it a good whirl in the blender while it's hot.

The various fats and spices are chosen to go together for the purpose of getting the best absorption from the turmeric along with lots of good superfood boosts from things like raw honey (don't let this get too hot to preserve the good stuff in it) and sea salt.

Sort:

You should try putting a bit of turmeric on / in your eggs (if you eat eggs that is), it makes them very yellow.
Congratulation on your 7 years, have a blessed day :)

Turmeric eggs.. may try that sometime!

I love the title of your show. I feel the love in it. Pleased to meet you and all the best with your marriage and family. The very best, the blessed best. You're both brilliant.

Thanks for the recipe. I like following recipes generally if I'm doing something. I've cooked some out of the ordinary things when I've been going on my own. I remember making this Frankenstein risotto for instance. I was a bit embarrassed by that.

Have a great day. God bless.

Thank you so much! Give the Turmeric Hot Chocolate a try, I bet you'll enjoy it!
