Halloween Bank Heist, Part 2

in #virginia5 years ago

Thankfully, less than a minute after the robbers absconded, a local boy named Bobby Black came into the bank to get change for his dime. Seeing the bank was empty, and hearing frightened voices coming from the vault, he rushed out to find help. The nearest person was poultry farmer Jason Weaver, who realized that time was of the essence for the trapped victims. While others arranged for an acetylene torch to be brought into the bank, Weaver shouted to the men inside for the combination.

In order to save their precious air, cashier William Bussey tapped out the combination lock's code. Frantically, Weaver tried the numbers, with the first few attempts being frustratingly unsuccessful. Finally, he managed to steady his nerves and the sequence worked! The heavy door swung open to the infinite relief and gratitude of his neighbors trapped within. For 15 tense minutes, they had faced their imminent demise!

Jason Weaver was quickly regarded as a hero by neighbors and local press, but he shrugged it off as "just doing what anyone would do." When the bank offered him an award for saving the victim's lives, he turned it down. Thanks to an All Points Bulletin spread by the police, the robbers were soon caught and sent to a Roanoke jail awaiting trial. The money was all returned, but since the brazen act had nearly cost the three Stuarts Draft residents their lives, all three men (Roanoke natives Wilson Jacobs, Charles Sloan and Raymond Maloney) were sentenced to life in prison, without parole.

That's lucky that the boy came in for change and that the customers were saved. I totally would have taken the reward though if it was me who saved them hahaha

Wow, that is a pretty exciting end to a harrowing tale. I thought sure the customer that the second gunman had detained was going to be the one to identify them or something like that. If the vault was that airtight it is interesting that they were still able to hear them through it. I guess that has to do with matters of science I am not familiar with.

I'm glad to hear that the people got out of the vault. Dying of suffocation isn't a way I would want to go
