Human Weaknesses 人性的弱点

There are universal virtues being emphasised but they can’t be widely applied due to human weaknesses. Let’s take two examples as below:

Filial piety is a virtue for honouring the parents and the continuity of humanity. However, as people become individualistic and tend to work harder, they find it difficult to care for their parents. In order to enable the elderly parents who are not able to subsist their own living, there are countries that legally require the capable children to care for their parents. This has given certain security to the needy parents. But it also reveals the human weakness that filial piety is not a virtue but a legal obligation.

Trusting one another is also a vital virtue for human beings to help one another for a better living. However, there are systems to prevent cheating and illegal transaction of money. The systems are helpful but costly. Supposedly, if human beings are able to live in love and trust one another, the systems are obsolete, and money and time could be saved for a better living of the community at large.

In spite of good universal virtues, the biggest need, perhaps, is to be able to overcome the human weaknesses or some may put these as the sinful and fallen nature of mankind.

我们必须强调普世性的美德，但由于人性的弱点，这些美德便难以渗透人间。我们举出两个例子如下：

孝道是对父母的应有态度及延续人类的一种美德。然而，随着人们变得更自我及忙于工作，他们变得很难照顾父母。为了使那些无法维持生计的老年父母能够生活，有些国家立法要有能力的孩子照顾父母；这的确能为有需要的父母提供了一定的保障。但它也揭示了人类的弱点，即孝道不是一种美德，而是一种法律义务。

信任也是人类互相帮助以改善生活的重要美德。如今，必须要有一些系统以防止欺诈和非法交易；这些所谓有用的系统基本上很昂贵。假䛇人类能够相爱并相互信任，那么这些系统就沒有什么必要了，也因此可以节省金钱和时间，以便把更多的资源用在改善整个社体的生活。

尽管有所谓普世的美德，但如今最大的需要或许是要克服人类的弱点，即是有些人稱之为人的罪性或堕落的本性。
