As Aspergian! # 16

Goodnight…

Dear friends, I have regularly seen decalogues, phrases and thoughts in the style _ what would an autistic person ask you? _

From today I will say in 50 images: _ Writing a thought is more than making a sentence, _ what a woman with Asperger syndrome thinks.

# 16.

Writing a thought is more than making a phrase.

As Aspergian!

"Our difficulties in sensory integration are as many and varied as there are stimuli in the environment.

Behavioral reactions to any imbalance in the senses can literally trigger a catastrophic day. The world is a simultaneous cluster of visual, auditory, tactile, gustatory and olfactory assaults that for a person with autism with difficulties in sensory integration it is difficult to keep them each in the channel that corresponds to them.

Most of the time we choose to close the perceptual channels and only keep open those that we need at that moment. For example, when we listen to a class, we make an effort to listen and when we talk to a person, we look at their faces or pay attention to what they say; but most of the time both things at the same time we can not do it because controlling every stimulus that goes in more than we should let it out, if we have to answer, that costs us a lot of energy.

The field of sensory integration is very little known. Although not so much the subject in general as the variety of manifestations in which these alterations are manifested: irritability, sleep, confusion, crying, need for self-stimulation, evasion of places and avoidance of people, are some situations that I have experienced.

In children it is common to see tantrums, screaming, locking in dark places, late sphincter control, balancing, fears and night terrors, covering your ears, avoiding some textures (this also in adults)

That's why we should be aware of these situations when judging and addressing a person with autism.

I'm Sandra Nahil.

A woman with Asperger's syndrome.
