What is purpose?
The word purpose is very subjective, here are a few definitions of the word:

An object to be reached; a target; an aim; a goal.A result that is desired; an intention.The act of intending to do something; resolution; determination.

Also.....

The subject of discourse; the point at issue. The reason for which something is done, or the reason it is done in a particular way.The purpose of turning off the lights overnight is to save energy.(obsolete) Instance; example.
Synonyms(target): aim, goal, object, target(intention): aim, plan, intention(determination): determination, intention, resolution(subject of discourse): matter, subject, topic(reason for doing something): reason

With those definitions, we can go ahead and state the benefits of living a life of purpose, because a life without purpose is meaningless or void.

The importance of purpose
#1. Purpose gives your life a meaning: people living without a good reason to do so live anyhow they like. You can't live your life like that.

#2. Purpose determines the company you keep: if you live a life of purpose, it will help you in choosing your closest friends.
#3. A purpose life is well-designed: the purpose life is lived with definiteness. Not just to get by.
#4. Your decisions will be guided by your life purpose: you won't just make decisions based on feelings, but on purpose.
#5. A life of purpose will attract other lives of purpose: if you live a life of purpose, many purposeful people will want to come closer to you.
