How Plant Gives Life To The Entire Ecosystem
Plant as a major component of the ecosystem is responsible for the regulatory of material and energy needed for all other component in the entire ecosystem to survive. By ecosystem, what do we really mean?
Ecosystem in its simplest definition is the various interactions that take place between the living, non-living things and the environment. This interaction is in form of a cycle and it is a continuous process, that is, when there is a breakdown in one part, then the entire system breakdown. This is to say that every component has its own niche meaning that they all have their respective role to play to sustain the entire ecosystem.
Components of the system
- Producers (green plants)
- Consumers (animals)
- Decomposers (bacteria and fungi)
How Plants Gives Life To The Entire System
The importance of plant in our environment can not be underrated because even from our elementary knowledge, we were told that plants gives out oxygen that man and other animals needs to respirate while they also takes in carbon dioxide that we release into the system to balance the whole thing.
Plants which is also known as the producer engages in a process called photosynthesis. Photosynthesis is the process by which green plants manufactured their own food by converting solar energy to chemical potential energy a process term productivity. Ultimately, green plants have their essential role to provide the entire input of energy to ecosystem and that is why they are referred to as Producers.
After plants has manufactured their own food, animal feed on plants otherwise known as the Consumer and this is where man and other animals belongs to. Without plants, consumer can not manufacture food directly from the sunlight so when we remove plants from the system, the entire system die. Likewise when animals die, decomposer act on it to cause it to decay which will in turn serves as manual for green plants and that is why it is a continuous process.
Plants also gives life by regulating the C02 of the environment, consequently, the increase in C02 of an environment will lead to warming in that particular environment and what plants does is to take in the C02 and use it during photosynthesis and that is why it is good to plant more tress and flowers in our environment.
