The Aftermath of Desperation

Being desperate is a normal feeling everyone should have to experience at some point in our daily life, but one’s ability to be able to manage and control that feeling is what determines the aftermath. In fact, no one can say they have never been desperate unless they don’t know how it feels, else I thing you should go for some checkup.
What does it mean to be desperate?
The word “Desperate” can be defined as being consumed with a strong desire for something. These strong desires drive some people to make wrong moves, from experience, when people are desperate about something, the tendency of it coming through is reduced by 30% (though not applicable to all). This is because, at the point of desperation, perhaps you tend to make wrong decisions, say some things you ought not to have said or even do something that when you later realize, you begin to wonder how they happened.
People tend to be anxious when they are desperate, this anxiety could be one of the reasons why people make wrong decisions, because anxiety affects the mental stability of humans, and it causes this mental uneasiness which affects the reasoning of the person. During this period of mental instability, it will be difficult for the person to do anything the right way, or even be at ease with the people around them, they also don’t find anything interesting until they get the result of what they want. Being desperate seems to shut down ones thinking faculty for that period.
Desperation have actually caused more harm than good in our daily life, I’ll cite an example about a scenario that occurred few weeks back.
My friend Vivian had 30,000 NGN and she wanted to get a phone, the phone is worth 50,000 NGN and she couldn’t afford it. Looking at the situation, she couldn’t afford it so I came up with two other options for her which are:

  1. Go for a phone with lower specification that your money can afford.
  2. Wait until you get your monthly allowance to complete the money.

These were my advice, telling her that she had no extra source of income and she had to feed, if she spend d whole money on phone how will she feed till end of the month? I told her “don’t be desperate” else you’ll make decisions you may regret later, she picked offence and said I’m against her success, I sensed she was already desperate about it so I left her alone so she won’t be seeing me as an antagonist.
But guess what friends? She got the phone and the same night, she was so sad when she was supposed to be happy that she got a new phone, immediately she said “Mayor I should have listened to you”, I’m beginning to regret buying this phone, I don’t even have a penny and I need to get some foodstuff, she started mentioning all her problems. Trust me the last thing I could do was to make her feel bad at that moment, so I encouraged her and advised her never to make the same mistakes again. She admitted to her mistakes and said she had learnt from it.
There are more critical cases, but this is the only one I can share. If you’re reading this, please try not to be desperate about anything, even when you discover you are, just be calm and try to seek for advice from people you can trust for good advice before making your decision.
