Walkwithme No. 3 — A Stroll Through Whitney Gardens In Brinnon, Washington

in #walkwithme6 years ago

The other day, Mrs. Denmarkguy and I took a few hours off the daily routine to head to the small town of Brinnon, Washington to visit some friends.

As part of our excursion, we stopped in at Whitney Gardens... a combination nursery and 7-acre nature park with outstanding collections of both Rhododendrons and various types of Japanese Maples.

Although it is somewhat late in the flowering season, there was still a tremendous variety of blooms. I was also struck by the "layering" of colors and textures, especially around some of the streams and water features.

Of course, I had my camera along! So I thought I'd take a "small" selection of the photos I took and share them in @lyndsaybowes' popular "Walk With Me" format. Hope you enjoy!

Gardens
Welcome to the gardens! There are a number of small streams traversing the park.

Gardens
The layering of colors and shapes is amazing; most of the plants are mature specimens.

Rhododendrons
Whitney Gardens is best known for their rhododendrons. There are 100's of species, and many have grown into mature "trees," some more than 20 feet in height.

Rhododendrons
Every color and flower type you can imagine.

Rhododendrons
Some were as vibrant as the feathers of tropical birds.

Rhododendrons
Peachy-salmon colored...

Rhododendrons
...and scarlet red.

WaterView
Of course, there were also lovely Zen-like views with water and trees...

Trees
The trees... some of them are huge and ancient. Here Mrs. Denmarkguy is "getting intimate" with a giant Spanish Oak. Yes, we're tree huggers!

JapaneseMaple
The Rhododendrons were not the only thing adding color. The foliage of some of the Japanese Maples was amazing!

JapaneseMaple
Note the tiny threads of spider silk...

JapaneseMaple
Even the little seed pods on the maples were brilliantly colored...

Crane
A strange mechanical monster rises between the trees...?

Lilies
No, these lilies have not been color enhanced-- they are just THAT bright!

Serpent
A rusty sea serpent dwells by one of the streams...

Rain
In the end, we had to cut the visit short when the rains came... but it was a lovely outing!

Well, I hope you enjoyed this small slice of Pacific Northwest nature! As you can see, I can't even make a short and simple photo post, I just believe people should get their money's worth when they visit these pages! Comments and feedback always welcome and invited!

Thanks Lyndsay, and thanks for stopping by! It was just one of those rare places where it was almost impossible to take a bad picture.

Thanks for the kind words, and much love and bright blessings to you!

What a lovely place! So much to photograph! Cool cameo by Mrs Denmarkguy :)

It was just a really nice outing... and according to the people in the gift shop, it was even "far from at its best." But I was certainly impressed!

so beautiful flowers and such a wonderful shades of colors!!! Mrs Denmarkguy is really a nice woman!!! (PS: I'm a tree hugger like you ^_^)

Thank you Silvia! It was a lovely day and a chance to just get out and away from the daily routine of life.

Wow, beautiful pictures. What camera did you use to have such pretty pictures?

It's my Fuji FinePix HS20EXR... which I've been using for years and years. It's "out of date" compared yo most cameras, but it still takes nice photos.

Fuji FinePix is definitely worth the investment. Well, perhaps it's not the camera but the skills of the camera man! :D

I suppose some of each! I have been interested in nature photography since about age 12.

Wonderful colours! Big gardens like that are beautiful - even when it rains!

Thank you! It was definitely a feast for the eyes-- very enjoyable. Thankfully, the rain did not start till the very end.

Just amazing.Flower is the beauty of nature. But some scenery makes the mind cool.In single word the pictures are awesome. Thanks for sharing your experience with all.

Thanks for your kind words!
