Walk with Zeke - Geocaching

Geocaching has become a neat hobby for my little one whose eyes lit up when I told her there might be a geocaching app on her phone she could download for free. Very few will notice this from my blog as this post was brightly outshone by the hard fork switchover https://steemit.com/walkwithme/@zekepickleman/walkwithme-special-edition-geocaching

Well here we are again to hopefully reach a wider audience, and raise a few bucks so she can buy the paid app with the "best geocaches" unlocked. I will collect any generous upvotes and report on them as we go until she has the 9.99 for the full app. Perhaps she will want to start her own STEEMit blog and become the second generation to do so in this family.

Again, here is what the APP looks like on the Iphone. https://www.geocaching.com/play Apparently there are quite a few around but we hit the road today for a little greater adventure.

One of the best parts of this neat hobby is we pack the dog up as well so we are all sharing the adventure, getting out into the world and exercising. She looks nervous here as many dogs do in the car but worry not, your will see she gets right into it.

The first one we come across is literally in the middle of nowhere. a tiny little overgrown and almost forgotten ancient graveyard. This freaks my drama queen out a little as she avoids graveyards like dogs do sewer grates.

IMG_4501.jpg

Found it! This one was marked as micro which means it is really small, won't have much in it, and is a challenge to locate.

IMG_4502.jpg

The second one is a little bigger, and is hung from a branch in a tree. A little bigger than the last one and looks like a peanut butter jar wrapped in duct tape. Fits a few things including a little pad so you can write a note to future cachers.

IMG_4504.jpg

We hit the road again and pause for another rural cache. It is kind of a neat contrast moment in this journey as we are using the latest technology, and driving in a luxury car while we cross paths with other folks who use next to no technology and have a horse and buggy as their main mode of transportation.

IMG_4505.jpg

How the hell does Zeke get beer in every post? Dedication and motivation, that's how. I picked a small town with a great craft brewery that happened to have a few geocaches within a mile or so.

IMG_4506.jpg

The next one turned into a little bit of a nature walk for all of us and the dog managed to chase some ducks into the water.

IMG_4507.jpg

The Canadian honking hosers have not headed to Florida just yet.

IMG_4508.jpg

500 yards through forest to the next one.

IMG_4512.jpg

Found it! We are getting good at this!

IMG_4514.jpg

We take more back roads on our way back towards home as there are more caches along the way. This one was hidden in the barrier on the side of the road so we had to collect it too.

IMG_4516.jpg

Another geocache a few miles down the road and ANOTHER cemetery? Little one is not pleased!

IMG_4519.jpg

The next one down a couple more country roads takes us to a Menonite home built in 1856 and preserved for all to see. It is another 500 yards back into the forest so the dog is really happy.

IMG_4521.jpg

This one is "legitness" as it is what looks like a metal ammo box full of treasure. When we can buy the app, and create our own geocache, this is the kind she wants to make. Good thing I know some shooters with ammo boxes.

IMG_4522.jpg

I can't seem to say no as the day grows long but there are more geocaches on our way home. As she finds one last one, I am inspired by the fact I am out in the country, between a field and yet another cemetery and everyone is having fun.

IMG_4524.jpg

Here is a shot of the final few miles of our epic adventure as we crawl towards home with 8 discovered caches, a sleeping dog, and a hungry couple of adventurers.

I did tease a couple pics last week here https://steemit.com/life/@zekepickleman/pizza-and-beer-done-right-2018-09-30-16-09-55 but we needed hand made veggie pizza and beer so bad, it is a perfect opportunity to use @steepshot and get to eating!

What a great day. When I can try and be a good dad, get a bunch of exercise, create a little happiness, see things from a new perspective, and end it all off with a beer and pizza, that would have to be close to the perfect day. The fact that she may be getting a little closer to beating cemeteryphobia is an unexpected bonus.

Hah I find it from some reason suuper sweet when kids do geocaching..it's a cool concept, I've found some myself with my father several years ago... but 8 in one day is a great job! Btw if expect the micro cache to be much smaller that that huge bottle.

Haha. That was just zoomed in. Look at the huge pine needles! It was about the size of a lighter.
