Pipeline Protectors, government, media and law enforcement fight for climate chaos.

in #waterislife5 years ago

Two years after Standing Rock the water protectors around the world are still mobilized. We are continuing our principled stands in protection of the planet’s life giving waters. The oil barons are ratcheting up their rhetoric and violence through their proxies; the media and law enforcement. Meanwhile the amount of carbon in the atmosphere continues to climb, and the ecological fallout continues to increase in frequency and severity.

In North Dakota dozens of law enforcement agencies from all across the midwest deployed to protect the Dakota Access Pipe Line. Along with the North Dakota National Guard the pipeline protectors used violence, psychological warfare, infiltrators, corrupt prosecutors and an endless line of lying law enforcement to gain convictions and take political prisoners.

The depths to which money hungry politicians will sink to in order to take some of that oil money is without measure. Bare in mind that the politicians who ordered the National Guard to attack the indigenous people on private property were and are heavily invested in oil wells which will use the Dakota Access Pipe Line. They have a blatant conflict of interests, and their investments in the oil industry were almost certainly influential in their decision to attack the water protectors camps. After all, we were unarmed and peaceful. Praying for a better world for our children.

Now, there are people all across the country working to halt the fossil fuel industry. They know what seems so clear; we must shift to a better way now.

The people are actively standing up to the largest monetary industries in their region and attempting to thwart the contamination of their waters. In Colorado the fracking industry, along with coal are largely unopposed in politics, they have bought off a large enough percentage of the people in power. Now it’s fallen to the citizens to vote for a ballot initiative which would create a greater buffer zone between drilling operations and homes, this would prevent development on private land and protect schools. Of course the oil industry wants to create their profits regardless of who it may endanger, this is why we continue our movement to protect the water, legislatively, in the judicial system and in the streets.

The eastern side of the country is standing in opposition to the Atlantic Crest Pipe Line and the Mountain Valley Pipe Line. There have been mobilizations of activists taking to tree sits. Climbing high into the canopy and tethering themselves to trees which are in the path of construction.

The development of these resources has been encouraged by the Chinese government, which pledged to buy the fossil fuels developed in the region. Like most of the fossil fuel developments in the country at the moment, the east coast pipelines are being constructed for export purposes.

The midsection of the country has multiple pipeline resistance movements, in Minnesota the Anishinabe people are doing their best to protect their traditional food Wild Rice.

Wild Rice is a staple of the people in this region, it is so important that the right to harvest wild rice was directly addressed in the treaty negotiations between the Anishinabe and the USA government. The US government has so far not honored a single treaty made with the indigenous people of this country. The people of the land are understandably upset about seeing their way of life under attack. The corporation which is responsible for this pipeline project is Endbridge, their line 3 project will directly harm the people of the 1855 treaty. Treaty law is considered the Supreme Law Of The Land. The rights of the people to continue their traditional way of life is without question enshrined in treaty law. When politicians and law enforcement violate treaty law who holds them accountable? No one. No one does, except the people who have been continuously killed and disenfranchised by the colonizers government.

Also in the middle of the country a fight has been ongoing in the bayous of Louisiana. The Bayou Bridge Pipeline is the tail end of the project which begins as the Dakota Access Pipe Line in the north. This project has been forced through the state despite the fact that it didn’t have proper permitting and is exposing residents to undue danger. The people of St James parish live under threat of potential leaks or explosions from this pipeline. As part of the development of this project the builders, Energy Transfer Partners, were required to create an evacuation plan for the residents of St. James Parish. Despite the fact that the company failed in this duty, they have been continuing construction. Including construction on a piece of private property which ETP was unable to obtain either a legal judgement or owner permission to build on. This means that the company is building their pipeline on private property which they have no right to build on. All of this is happening, again, with the backdrop of a political landscape populated by individuals with large fossil fuel portfolios. People like John Bel Edwards the governor of the state mirror almost exactly the immoral practices of other pipeline protectors and oil baron mercenaries. I name governors like John Hickenlooper and Doug Bergum as puppets of the oligarchy, they have stood aside while the citizens of their state call for a redress of grievances, not only stood aside, but went on to use their positions of power to act as enforcers for oil barons. This IS a perfect marriage of corporation and state.

Here in the northwest where I live, there are multiple pipelines which are slated to harm our way of life. The Trans-mountain pipeline in Klanada is threatening the Salish Sea, this water way is the traditional fishing territory of my ancestors the Nooksack People.

Our fisheries and claming beds would be completely ruined by a tanker spill. The Trans-mountain pipeline like so many other projects in this modern era is being built to create profits from exporting crude oil. The refineries in the USA and Klanada have reached peak production, there is no more profit to be gained from the refinery bottle neck in the americas, this is why we see massive amounts of fuel being exported as crude. Crude oil is extremely hard to recover from oceans, at best the industry has been able to disperse the oil, spreading it out so that the effect is less evident. Still the bitumen and other chemicals cause massive environmental harm, harm which so far the fossil fuels industries are not genuinely accountable for.

Another project being developed in the northwest is the Jordan Cove LNG terminal, this project is sited on the Oregon coast near Coos Bay. Sadly the site is located within the tsunami zone, this means that in the event of an earthquake the terminal would likely be swamped. Assuming that a tsunami swamps the terminal’s generators and the liquified natural gas rises in temperature there would be a massive explosion. Natural gas terminals are extremely dangerous, and again the benefit is largely for shareholders and CEOs, while the threats and dangers are put on the public, as will be any clean up.

The projects I mention above are a tiny portion of the fossil fuel development happening across north america. Their projected carbon emissions practically guarantee a hothouse earth, climate chaos and yes GLOBAL WARMING.

There can be no doubt that these projects represent a clear and present danger to humanity and all of the earth’s life. We who are aware of these threats to life as we know it keep doing what we can to maintain focus on the importance of halting the fossil fuel emissions. Many political prisoners have been taken in these fights. The pipeliners are willing to tell outright lies in order to harm citizens who resist the oil industry. Politicians and law enforcement receive large checks from the oil companies, in what can only be considered bribery, and the media continuously betrays fact in order to maintain the corporate narrative. They are all in bed together, and the public are the ones being fucked.
