Hurricane Hector Skirts By South of Hawaii

Hawaii once again, dodges the bullet on an intense hurricane that has safely moved westward well south of the Hawaiian island chain.

Hurricane Hector, which originated out in the eastern Pacific ocean near Mexico, quickly strengthened into a hurricane of Category 2 and then strengthened even further to the strong Category 4 almost hitting the Category 5 level.

As with most tropical systems that approach Hawaii, majority of them weaken very quickly due the high wind shear in the atmosphere as well as cooler ocean temperatures that are found just around Hawaiian islands. Hawaii geographically is placed in a spot where it is safe from major hurricanes majority of the time.

The only time it was hit by a major hurricane was back when Hurricane Iniki made a direct hit on the island of Kauai on September 11, 1992.

While I'm here on Big Island today ... the only affects of Hurricane Hector on the island is the usual rain, no big deal!
