Weddings dress

Wedding dresses are special. They come with emotional attachments which the bride would cherish for her life. Bridal sarees, lehengas and gowns costs a fortune and people don't think twice on spending their hard earned money on these bridal wears which probably they won't wear twice in their life.

With extravagant wedding comes extravagant expenses. I have this neighbor who bought a gown that costed her 45k INR for her wedding reception. I didn't dare to ask her the cost of her wedding saree for it looked too costly for me to handle. The reception gown was very flashy which she cannot wear for anyone else's wedding for she would steal all the limelight. Anyways, so 45k is a huge amount to spend for a dress that is to be worn just once. But, her mother said her daughter liked all pricey stuffs (who doesn't like, right?). Her dad had to sell off a part of his ancestral property to fund for her wedding, which he says was saved for her wedding.

Grand wedding is everyone's dream. My cousin spent around 20 lakhs on her beach side wedding at a pristine resort in Goa (India). She got her guests from Mumbai and arranged for their stay, food And drinks. Guests were mostly at the bar when the bride and groom were attending ceremonies. It has been over a year for the wedding and my cousin is still paying off the loan. She wants to quit her job And relax a little, but can't do so for she has a loan to pay for.

Was that extravagant wedding necessary? She could have easily got married at a low key ceremony and saved the money which she could have used at the time of crisis. Those who drank at her wedding are in no way helping her.

I know weddings are special, but one should spend cautiously. The money can be of use for the family at some point of time. I am not in favour of spending heavily on guests who would forget everything very soon.
