This Was My Town

This is the house I was born and raised in.

Of course its been more than a few decades, but this is the house I was raised in. Funny the changes that over three decades can bring! For a quick example, where there is just one maple tree in the photo there used to also be a large one to the right.

This Was My Town

For some reason, seems like thinking about this post brings this song to mind.

Now this is a neighbors house that likes to go all out for the holidays!

Check it out on Halloween!

This here is the infamous drug store (now liquor dealer) where my 7 year old self and a few friends convinced my buddy Gary to steal a Playboy in order to be invited into our club lol. Gary did it too, and got caught!

The bakery where they sold the best pepperoni loaves!

This used to be the Tastee Freeze. We would risk our young lives crossing the big road for a ice cream cone.

My first elementary school!

The sub shop has the best pizza with everything called the Armada. The guy that owns the place is about 93 or more and still drives a new Mustang and wears the largest cowboy hat you ever saw!

Special thanks to @tattoodjay for hosting Wednesday Walk!!

Finally the Thunderbowl where not only did we learn to bowl, but also to shoot pool and play pinball!! They filmed a local TV show called Bowling for Dollars and we would try to get on camera as they panned across the audience before going to a commercial!

Funny thing is I know I am getting older because I swear I am living this song day after day LOL.

Have a great rest of your week

Thanks for stopping by!

@old-guy-photos,

I hear ya, Ol' Guy. When I go back to where I grew up, I hardly recognize it. All my childhood memories are buried beneath three-story condos. My High School is gone, replaced by apartment buildings and a parking lot.

Dredging up the past, though, makes you cognizant of just how much impact childhood had on forming who and what you actually are. And sometimes ... that's a painful realization. "Glory Days" ... a poignantly true, and sad, commentary.

It opens a whole different can of worms but I believe a great deal is due to luck. I mean, as Buffett says, we already won the ovarian lottery.

As he said at Berkshire Hathaway’s Annual Shareholders Meeting in 1997, he knew he had won what he called the “ovarian lottery.”

“You don’t know whether you’re going to be born black or white. You don’t know whether you’re going to be born male or female,” he explained. “You don’t know whether you’re going to be born infirm or able-bodied. You don’t know whether you’re going to be born in the United States or Afghanistan.”

The ovarian lottery is “the most important event in which you’ll ever participate,” Buffett continued. “It’s going to determine way more than what school you go to, how hard you work, all kinds of things.”

It's a trip down memory lane for you, but your mention of Bowling for Dollars brought back memories for me too. I used to watch that show as a kid, and recall that I even sent in a postcard or two trying to be a "Pin Pal." I'm guessing the version I watched was filmed in Los Angeles though. Thanks for the memories @old-guy-photos!

Oh that is too cool! Yes I do remember Pin Pals now that you mentioned it! You know I bet they must have produced that in various local markets. To the best of my memory they were not long shows. Well here's to the good old days lol.

Yeah. I’m pretty sure it was on one of the local channels here. I recall a show called Dialing for Dollars too :-)

A trip down memory lane for you!

Personal stories like this are valuable.

I enjoyed this. Your experience from crossing the busy road to get ice cream to the bowling alley and pinball machines sounds and looks like my childhood...except for the playboy heist.
