St.Petersburg sunday street life

hello, dear steemians. got to post some pics from my recent walk across the city. it was a special occasion: I was invited to check an intresting photo event, so I visited the historical centre of the city (my friends who follow me, may know I do not do this very often). and of course, it turned into a solid streetphoto session. I was in need to take some pics for Qurator Treasure Hunt Week #1 (which I failed at completely, tho I did take some pics...)
Ok, here we go.

wed_3037.jpg
two beautiful ladies posed me when I passed by - they really suggested me to shoot them, themselves - and posed! they actually work as a street boosters, advertising a Georgian cafe (you can see its display on the background).

wed_3043_champ.jpg
this champagne-bottle-hoarder-lady was waiting for a taxi.
probably she had some fun this evening!

wed_3035_queen.jpg
do you recognize this old lady in a memorable turquoise dress? I wonder what does she doing so far away from her Buckingham Palace residence..

wed_3036_door.jpg
some shameless exploit of a British style here... but I liked it!

wed_3032w.jpg
Here is the house, where Daniil Harms lived in 1930-es. He was an outstanding russian poet, intellectual, mystic and gentleman who was far ahead of his time. (I do not know what comparable scale figure can be named like him... Jean Cocteau, maybe?) I strongly suspect that his works cannot be translated into other languages, and you can never appreciate his great works of Absurd. One of my very fave artists, actually. So, the house where he lived is decorated with his portrait and monogramme, probably it happened a few years ago but I havent seen it before. Was a lovely surprise for me! (And I managed to shot it in one take, no panorama stitching was used).

wed_3034_church.jpg
a great 'gothic' styled buiding, located at Kovensky pereulok -- no way I could shoot it properly without wide-angled lens. heh. I used my 50-mm just to show you what I am missing! but I have a great news, @tattoodjay: tomorrow I have a meet up concerning obtaining a 16-35mm lens, which is known to be Top AA+ wide-angle lense by Canon. well, lets see.. second hand market is a risky thing, but other way it is absolutely unapproachable for me. wish me luck, my friends!

wed_3038.jpg
a very beautiful 'ar nuovo' buiding, decorated with Angel on the top -- nothing to do here without a tele lens. 50-mm really has its limitations :P

wed_3040_door.jpg
just a nice little thingie attracted my eyes; 'pull it', says the tablet.

wed_3041_moto.jpg
I have stumbled upon a few really cool-decorated and eye-catching vehicles. 'grass-o-matic' says the tablet on this device. does it mean this vehicle is ecofriendly and uses grass, instead of a gazoline? that would be fantastic! but I have some doubts about it...

wed_2989.jpg

wed_2990w.jpg

wed_3046.jpg
This old lady is trying to sell some flowers to the cars passengers, to earn some money for living. Modern edition of a beautiful young flower girls from the classic novels...

wed_3045.jpg
The concrete jungle city-hunter (just look at her nails!!)

wed_3049_hangin.jpg
A golden-youth company, probably a students having fun time...

wed_3052_sabre2.jpg
This amazing pair almost escaped my camera... but anyway their most intresting part is the back... look at the backpacks (the lady seems have no one?) -- we have not less than two swordsmen! those are definitely the hunters, not the game!

wed_3063_plintuar.jpg
"А я один сидю на плинтуаре, тёмной ночью...
Cидю глядю, как деньги уплывают..."
Это так называемые гопники, тёмные личности...

Those folks were just sitting there and doing nothing all day long... drink beer and vodka, snoke and wait... for something. Some really muddy, obscured persons there. Better not to face them. Suggesting them to pose with any sort of a card, was completely out of question.... (maybe I should bribe them... but after all, I am in it for earning, not for paying out, hehe!). So I took my pics from the back. AND still had some issues... happily, I managed to talk out without any losses nor for my health, neither for lens / camera.
Qu(r)ator: R for Relax!

wed_3054_market.jpg
My short walk actually took place around the single quartal, neighborhood adjacent to the Tube station: Mayakovsky street, Zhukovsky street, and Kovensky Lane. This small Flower Market is located right at the Tube's exit...

wed_3065_mus1.jpg
...and the opposite corner, in front of the entering doors, was occupied by the street rock band. When I was passing by, they were playing the well-known 'Smells like a teen spirit' - Nirvana cover. I couldnt resist to stop and made three dozen shots... luckily, I had a solid supply of digital film...
Qurato(r): R for Rhytm!

wed_3078_unicor.jpg
Q(u)rator: U for Uniform! or maybe Unicorn, as it is very close, too ;-)

wed_3080_ushi.jpg
Some strangers passing by obviously didnt enjoy the music much. But others definitely felt an extazy about it (I have some proofpics). Pretty sadly, again I couldnt add my Qurator cardboard to the frame (I had it with me, in the backpack).

IMG_3109_overjoyw.jpg
Qurat(o)r: O for Overjoy!

wed_3081.jpg
A general view of the main thoroughfare of the city, Nevsky prospect. It has been shot a hundred thousand times, so not so interesting.
Qura(t)or: T for Traffic!

IMG_3121w.jpg
(Q)urator: Q for Qwerty (I shot it back at home, adding it here as a bonus).

IMG_3021w.jpg
And the last one, but not the least: the shot from the said exhibition. I invited @madlenfox, @bambuka and @tatdt to go with me, but unfortunately they were busy and out of town, so I promised to create sort of a review for them... which will need another post from me... What you see here, is a picturesque ancient ruins on the exhibited prints, a vintage camera and a vintage tintype technology: the famous wet-process photoprinting. Just wow! So, see you later. Maybe qurator mods will grant me a consolation prize, who knows. Q is my favourite letter, after all.
Qur(a)tor: A for Ancient.

What an interesting post. Love the 'queen' standing there waving. Cool photos. 😏

@dkkarolien, my pleasure!! I was surprised to discover her too!
but in terms of photos, some other photos here I love better. I love peoples portraits and funny situations, but... street photography is not my strong suit, you know. I still try to do my best, from time to time.

Nevertheless. Not always the quality of the photo but definitely the image it portrays and adding to that with your words told me a great story about your walk. 😉

hey, why are you not in bed? are you already got up?! @dkkarolien

😂 😂 It's 07h23 am here... Time to rise and shine and start the day. 😉☀️

Wow, this an awesome post! I really enjoyed reading your discriptions and looking at all of your interesting and well shot photos. You give a great snapshot of the people and culture of this interesting, pretty, and cool looking city. Again awesome post, and thank you for sharing! :)

@paradigm42, merci! thanks for the visit :P

What a cool an interesting walk I did right down the things for the treasure hunt but never looked at it since I did so I failed miserably lol 😂
Fancy the queen being there and some really cool shots good luck with that lens I know people who have it and use it very often and keep love it

Thanks for joining Wednesday Walk :)

same thing, my friend! I did it, and miserably failed not even publishing it properly. well, no cardboards - nothing to show. @tattoodjay

I am not really that good at motivating my self for contests but maybe I will try in round 2 if there is a round 2

wow you just made me want to visit Russia even more. Great photos and description of the situations.

Cheers

nah, bad idea! I will mention you when I post something thrashy, so you could get rid of it :P
no, seriously, why do you have this strange idea?
better visit Venice... or Bali, or India (tho its a hard place to visit too, but more rewarding) well, what we really have, it is some virgin wild unspoiled nature, maybe thats worth visiting... @greencross

I have always been attracted to Russia and it's culture. I've lived in many cities, very trashy ones and now I live in a very immaculate nature. So it is time to check out what you guys have. I mean, it can't be worse than the worse I've experienced.

I mean, it can't be worse than the worse I've experienced.

well said :P

ok, if its a question of culture, then maybe.
better visit other places then Moscow, still.
St.Petersburg is good... known as a Russian 'cultural capital' (quite reasonably), imo.

by the photos you posted of the people and what they do, it reminded me much of the multicultural landscape found in São Paulo, Prague and Barcelona.

Definitively added St. Petersbug to my bucket list.

Cheers @qwerrie

Wow... I guess soon I have to visit Russia...

haha, you too, Brut?.... why, why you have such a perverted fantasy? better goto Venice. @priyanarc

Haha... I have lots of weird fantasy... haha

таки, вот чего я не получил в воскресенье))
славно погуляли)

I worked with a guy who lived in st petersburg during the ussr. He described it as a depressing place, but the photos make it look the opposite.

Posted using Partiko Android

@sketch.and.jam, well, that guy probably is correct!
i can tell you pros and cons, in a more detailed way,
if you are intrested to know. if its not just
academic approach :P
