Wednesday Walk in Washington Park

This park is at the border of Union City and Jersey City. Some residents consider this area as downtown Union City. Anyways, it is Hudson County.
At the entrance of the park you will see this huge metal sculpture.
Created by acclaimed artist Chakaia Booker, the brushed stainless steel sculpture - 14 feet high and 35 feet wide - is called ‘Wave’. The artist, who is well known for her groundbreaking artistic creations using recycled tires, stated that she named the statue ‘wave’ because it’s about flow. It certainly fits this working class neighborhood that pulses with life and constant movement, like waves in the ocean. I love it!
The park is small, but charming. It has a few chess tables and chairs...
...some sport fields...
... and plenty of trees and plants ...

You probably didn’t see this park, it is small and hidden in between blocks, in Union City, around 1st street.

That sculpture is really neat. Love the way it fits in with the neighborhood, ebbs and flows :) Spring is now here and soon those chess boards will be busy, time to chat and enjoy neighbors. A great wednesday walk!
Oh, the chess tables are already busy, I just took the pics early in the morning, that’s why they are empty. 😉

That is a really neat park; not only art, but places to get some exercise, play chess (a game I never got the feel for) and those benches by those tree's... LOVE it! I'm betting you could spend an entire day there, and not get bored.
Bring a lunch, get some exercise... I see the trash receptacles too; added bonus!! Are there shop's close by that you could shop? Not that it would be needed mind you... just curious. Thanks for sharing this, and taking us along with you on your #wednesdaywalk..

Enjoyed the trees with blooms, the wave sculptor is most unusual. Hidden parks for pleasure!
