Each kiss a thorn: Week 2 of We-Writes

in #wewrite6 years ago

I love these we-writes! Here's my take on what the note said. Not very original I suppose but it fits the analogy.

Lydia touched the soft pedals that belonged to roses perched by her grandma's front door.

"Smooth as silk." Her grandma always said. "But be careful of the thorns, they prick."

It was true she realized, about more things than just roses.

Take this afternoon for instance. She had gone into work just like any other day. Her coffee still warm in her hand as she sat down at her desk.

But as she looked up to her computer, there stuck to the screen was a post-it note that read...

"It's all a lie."

Her cubicle was at the end of the room, tucked neatly into a corner. No one had seen her as she read the note, or noticed the color draining from her face.

She'd pulled the note off and quickly placed it into her purse to examine later. Now, safe at her grandmother's house she pulled the note from her bag.

It could only refer to one thing. She'd been having an affair with Jayden, the owner's son. While she was single, he'd been married for ten years and had two kids. He'd been promising to leave his wife, who worked in the marketing department of the business.

And she'd believed every word as his caresses felt as smooth as those rose petals. It was a lie she realized now. Each kiss and stolen moment just like a thorn.

She couldn't decide who had written the note. It didn't matter really, she felt exposed and dirty no matter where it came from. She did the only thing she could. Pulling out her iPad, she composed her resignation letter and updated her resume.

Thank you for an awesome first part of the story.

Hey @ntowl! Nice freewrite. The moral of the story is, don't have affairs, or you might get hit with a #HotPotato!

@freewritehouse started tossing a hot potato in the Over20Club.
@kaerpediem threw it at @felt.buzz who threw it at @improv who threw it at me (ouch!). It hit me on the head here: https://steemit.com/freewrite/@stinawog/five-minute-freewrite-burning

You have to clean up the mess if you get caught with it when the clock stops. So... URGENT URGENT!

Go read another Over20Clubber's #freewrite and pass it on to that writer in the comments! Here's the link to the contest announcement (which includes a list of over20clubbers, but it hasn't been update in a while): https://steemit.com/freewrite/@freewritehouse/hot-potato-an-over-20-club-game

I'm a bot. I detect haiku.

Me too, though I've been absent enjoying summer. Great haiku. 😉

That was an interesting take on the story @ntowl. I enjoyed reading it.

I had a go too. My first time at story writing. 😊

Thanks @gillianpearce. I'll make a point of going to read yours too.

I did not see that coming, but I loved it! Thank you for finishing it, and I'm so glad you are having fun!

She did not see
that coming, but
she loved it!

Fine. Haiku is not a talent of mine. A bot is better at it. So be it!

Better than I could do. I've always been intimidated by poetry...
