Where on Wednesday: Twelve - That time country music eluded us

in #whereonwednesday5 years ago (edited)

Have you ever had something go wrong in your life? Come on, I bet you have...But then again, this is the interwebs where people can spin up their own reality, true or false, with impunity and no fear of being called out I suppose; A place where everything is perfect. Well, I'm happy annoyed to stick my hand up and say that something went wrong for me and I'm open to writing about it.

Firstly though...Where would I rather be on this #whereonwednesday...Well, at the Tim McGraw concert in Adelaide of course! But alas, that's where the wheels fall off the Wednesday-wagon I'm afraid.

Tonight, multi-award-winning American country artist Tim McGraw was scheduled to do a concert here.

We'd heard about it months ago and due to our impending overseas trip, which we're leaving for on Sunday, Faith and I had decided to skip it despite really liking the artist and wanting to go.

It came down to money really, not lack of it, just money we would rather have for the trip. We are not wealthy people - Not destitute of course, but we choose to make wise financial decisions. So, we were content not to go.

We've seen Tim McGraw on another occasion which was simply awesome. That time he performed with his equally famous and award-winning wife, Faith Hill, and whilst it was an amazing concert, and McGraw is an artist we'd love to see again, we erred on the sensible side and decided not to buy tickets this time...We can't always get what we want in life right? Sometimes we miss out on things we dearly would love to have, or do.

Anyway, a few weeks ago a friend came over to have some pizza and watch a couple movies with Faith and I. She's house-sitting and looking after our cats when we go away this week so it served a double purpose: Hanging out plus familiarising the cats to her presence. I was getting drinks or something like that when she handed Faith, [my wife,] an envelope...A card as it turns out. Faith opened up the card and inside found some lovely words from our friend plus...Two Tim McGraw tickets!. Yep, legit. We were going to Tim McGraw!

Anyway, our friend had bought them for us as a gift, for no real reason, just to say thank you to us for some help we'd given her in recent times. We were blown away and really humbled by the gesture as we didn't help her with the expectation of any reward...We were also incredibly pleased we would get to see Tim McGraw after all.

Here's where the wagon loses a wheel completely

Last week my friend emailed me with a link which, upon following it, advised me that McGraw had cancelled his Adelaide concert due to "scheduling conflicts". ASSHOLE! Scheduling conflicts doesn't say too much and I sort of question it considering the dates were all set months ago...

We were devastated. Of course my friend would receive a full refund which is great however we were really looking forward to the concert. My friend was really annoyed too as her gift had sort of not worked out so well. Of course I called her and said that the value of her gift was not diminished; It's the thought of it that meant the most to us anyway, not the concert itself, but understandably she's disappointed.

So, rather than being at the Tim McGraw concert tonight I'll be at home, probably writing a post, and Faith will be working. It's a really busy week for her considering we are leaving for a few weeks on Sunday so the additional time will be well-used to cram in her clients...But we'd both rather be at the concert instead.

Real life can't be as easily manipulated as the faux-reality many try and create on the interwebs; Not everything in life is perfect, goes to plan or can be made to seem better than it actually is. Sometimes life kicks you in the balls Sometimes life hands you lemons and the only real option is to make lemonade...So, I'll throw some McGraw tunes on Spotify tonight and maybe sip a cool lemonade, made with life-supplied-lemons, whilst writing a post for Thursday.

I hope your hump-day (Wednesday) rolls out better than mine is, but if not just make lemonade. It's a legit and refreshing drink. 🍋

Want to write a post for #whereonwednesday? It's easy, just write about where you'd rather be! Tag #whereonwednesday in your post, on a Wednesday, to join in if you would like. It's not a challenge or anything dumb like that, neither do you get anything for it. It's just a chance to post your thoughts and maybe a picture or two.

Here's a few Tim McGraw music video's I grabbed off YouTube, the first featuring Taylor Swift and awesome Aussie, Keith Urban and the next two featuring McGraw's wife Faith Hill.

You should try limoncello, hehe.

Last time I drank limoncello was in Florence, Italy...I think I had to much...Not sure though, can't remember. :)

That's a let down these things happen and we should move on and make the most from it as you will be.

Yep, it's pretty disappointing but like you say, we'll move on. Spotify to the rescue. :)

The scheduling conflict could have been anywhere and yeh they probably should be caught earlier but I guess sometimes that’s difficult when it’s a big popular venue? I don’t know there’s reasons I went out of my way to avoid having anything to do with scheduling 😆

Sorry you won’t be going to the concert after all, hopefully there will be a next time 🙃

Spotify will have to do for tonight I guess. I'm sure the promoter is more angry than I am as they would have had everything paid for upfront with no return now. Spotify won't solve that issue and as it was a one night event, only one show here, the promoter can't buy insurance for this sort of thing. They have to wear the cost.

I'm kinda half half on country. But always liked Timmy. Pretty good actor as well

I only started liking it around twenty years ago and now I find it the most believable music, more real somehow. To be honest I listen to many types of music from classical, to heavy metal (Five Finger Death Punch-style) to country of course. I like modern country, not the old Dolly Parton stuff. Luke Combs, Old Dominion, Brett Young, Tyler Rich, Dixie Chicks, Darius Rucker, Keith Urban, Josh Turner, Zac Brown Band, Midland, Thomas Rhett, Locash, Pistol Annies, Florida Georgie Line...That sort of thing.

I've been a musician since the age of 4.5 when I started learning to play the piano so I have many musical interests. My Spotify account makes people's eyes pop when the see the diversity.

Anyway, thanks for commenting. Engagement seems a little sparse lately...Or maybe it's just my posts that suck? :)

Have you ever had something go wrong in your life?

One hands fingers aren't enough. Sometimes for one day, sometimes for one month. And that's only the times when it was my fault.

Hopefully Tim McGraw can come to play with you some other time.

See what I did there! :D Did you or your friends use that phrase as a child? Can Tim come out to play? I did! Well, I didn't have a friend named Tim, but I bet you got the idea. :D I guess this time his wife or perhaps mother said that Tim can't come because he has to take out the trash and clean his room.

I said that too...And if mum said no I'd emit a whiny sort of noise in protest...Untill the wooden spoon came out and then I took off and found something else to do.

Do you have a wooden spoon survivor T-shirt?

Haha...Nah, but there's a wooden spoon graveyard in the town I was raised. It's where all the dead wooden spoons lie, the ones that were broken on my rock hard ass cheeks! Mum had to buy increasingly stronger ones as my rock-ass got harder and harder. 😊🤣

That is a huge bummer! I think "scheduling conflict" is generally code for "something is going on that we don't want the public to know about." Like when politicians embroiled in a scandal step down because they want to spend more time with the family.

You're really good at keeping things in perspective, I suspect, so I'm sure you won't be sad for too long, especially with a great trip to look forward to.

The venue changed, to a smaller one...Then scheduling conflict seemed to happen. Pretty clear what's going on. I think he added a second concert in Sydney instead.

Yep, I gotta keep it in perspective. As I said tonight I ended up writing a 1700 word post for tomorrow, one I have to proof read and verify tomorrow before it goes up. A funny one. True story about a time I pursued glory in the swimming pool. 😉

Dude. Tim... Gonna have to have a word with him.

Oh yeah, give a couple of Benny Hill slaps on that bald-ass head of his.
