WHAT IS THE WILL OF GOD?

Introduction

Who am I supposed to marry?

What career should I pursue?

Should I live in my country or live oversea?

How many children should I give birth to?

What church should I attend? What food should I eat?

All these are common questions that go in the mind of a lot of believers, and many people will do anything to ensure they discern the will of God concerning every part of their lives.

This is a major overall exposition on the concept of the Will of God. We examined the most common misconception about the will of God, which religion has pushed for many years. We then discussed comprehensively what the will of God is and what is it not. We also discussed how to actualize the will of God for our lives.

After that, we share some specifics on the Will of God, as per different parts of our lives.

Join me in taking this adventurous journey into understanding the concept of God’s will for our life and for our world. God bless you as you read on. Please be prepared to LEARN, UNLEARN AND RELEARN.

WHAT IS THE WILL OF GOD?

I will start by discussing the prevailing misconceptions about God's will, before we then examine what is the will of God.

Please read slowly and patiently to the end of this message for full understanding: Many people pray often about the will of God. Everyone wants to know and be in the will of God. Paul also prayed for the Colossian church that they may be filled with the knowledge of God’s will and told the Ephesians church the need to understand the will of God. “For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you.

We continually ask God to fill you with the KNOWLEDGE OF HIS WILL through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives,” Colossians 1:9 “Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what THE LORD'S WILL is.” Ephesians 5:17 So, what is the will of God for me? What is the will of God for my marriage and my home? What is the will of God for my career and ministry? What is the will of God for the church? What is the will of God about what job to do and where to live? These are regular questions many people seek answers for all their lives. As usual, religion makes the topic to become so complicated.

In fact, they talk about different type of the will of God, perfect will of God, permissive will of God, progressive will of God, excessive will of God. Lol etc. So many people have been deceived that their marriage is not working because their life partner is not the perfect will of God, but permissive will of God. This error has led to unnecessary divorce, needless change of job, and all sorts of negativism – all blamed on the will of God.

DEBUNKING THE CONCEPT OF PERMISIVE WILL OF GOD.

A lot of believers have been taught there is a perfect will of God and there is pertheive will of God. They tell you that the perfect will of God is the original will of God for you but if you reject that, then God will permit you to take your own choice, so at that time, you stop being in the perfect will of God but in the permissive will of God.

The common example they give is when the Israelites asked Samuel for kings and he told them that since they reject God as their kings, he would give them kings that will cause a lot of evils in the land. Therefore, according to them, that was permissive will of God, because God permitted them their request. I used to believe this too for a long time until I got a better understanding of the Bible.

The Truth is that there is NOTHING like permissive will of God in the Bible, such terms were coined by religious folks in other to make up for their inadequate theology about the will of God, it is totally unscriptural. They usually use Romans 12:2 to back up that theology. Let us examine Romans 12:2 DOES ROMANS 12:2 CLASSIFY THE WILL OF GOD AS PERFECT OR PERMISSIVE? This verse has been wrongly interpreted as classifying some of God’s will as perfect or permissive. This is a big error of misinterpretation and reading your thought into the Bible.

We are going to read the verse and you will see clearly Paul never classified the will of God as perfect or imperfect. Let’s go. Romans 12:2 “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that GOOD, and ACCEPTABLE, and PERFECT, will of God.”

(KJV) “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is GOOD, and ACCEPTABLE, and PERFECT.” (ESV) “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—HIS GOOD, PLEASING AND PERFECT WILL”.”

(NIV) So, our dear religious folks say that since the Bible verse above mention perfect will of God, that means there must be imperfect will of God which they call permissive –an example of what the Bible never said (reading your thought into the Bible). To simply debunk that theory: Remember the verse also mentioned, GOOD AND ACCEPTABLE will of God.

That means there must also be BAD WILL OF GOD AND UNACCEPTABLE WILL OF GOD, since there is good and acceptable will of God. So, let me ask: Are you in the bad or unacceptable will of God?..... lol.. That is how ridiculous that interpretation is.

WHAT IS ROMANS 12:2 SAYING?

THE VERSE IS SIMPLY GIVING THE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE WILL OF GOD – THAT: 1. THE WILL OF GOD IS PERFECT, 2. THE WILL OF GOD IS GOOD 3. AND THE WILL OF GOD IS ACCEPTABLE. DO YOU GET THAT? There is nothing like perfect and imperfect will of God. Once it is imperfect, it is not the will of God. Because the will of God is perfect. The will of God is contained in the Word of God. THINK ABOUT THE WILL OF GOD AS “A WILL” – A LEGAL DOCUMENT SHOWING HOW A MAN WANTS HIS INHERITANCE TO BE SHARED.

SO THE WILL OF GOD IS EXACTLY GOD’S LEGAL DOCUMENTS ON WHAT HE WANTS YOU TO HAVE FROM HIM. And James 1:17 says “GOOD AND PERFECT GIFTS COME FROM THE FATHER OF LIGHT, WITH WHO THERE IS NO VARTIATION OR SHADOW OF TURNING" You see that? THE WILL OF GOD FOR YOU IS GOOD, PERFECT AND ACCEPTABLE. Note the following points about the will of God: 1. The will of God is definite. It can be known. It is ALREADY REVEALED. 2.

It is either something is God's will or it is not God's will. You are either in God’s will or you are not. No middle ground. (Please don’t start judging yourself until you finish this note) 3. The fact that something happened does not make it God's will. 4. The fact that God’s prophets prophesied something does not make it God's will.

Prophecy is for the purpose of awareness; it does NOT mean God stamps it as His will or He causes it. He only reveals it. 5. For instance, ALL EVILS THAT HAPPEN ON THE EARTH IS NOT GOD'S WILL. GOD DOES NOT DO EVIL. Jesus is the EXPRESS IMAGE of God the Father. Whatsoever you cannot find in Jesus, you cannot find in God. 6. THE WILL OF GOD IS THAT ALL WILL BE SAVED. Any sinner that is not saved is not God's will. 7.

Sickness, poverty etc are not God's will... 8. However, God can work ALL THINGS for the good of those who love Him, even those things that were not HIs will, He can work them out for the good of His children. 9. James 1:13 says "God does not tempt anyone with evil…” Satan does. 10. Let us stop using terminologies that are not consistent with the Bible..

There are things we all pass through as believers which are not palatable. They are not the will of God. However, God can work through those things for our good. DIFFERENTIATING BETWEEN THE PROCESS AND THE WILL OF GOD. The main error in understanding this topic is that people have lumped two different concepts together:

THE PROCESS AND THE WILL OF GOD.

They often regard the processes as the Will of God. The processes are what culminate that eventually leads to experiencing the Will of God. They are not the will of God themselves. For example: When God told Joseph he would get to the throne, that was the will of God for Joseph. Joseph was thrown into the pit, that was just a process.

He was sold into slavery and later thrown into the prison, all those were not the will of God, they were just processes. We have often been told that you must go through pit, prison, slavery, to ascend to the throne. Because of that theology, whenever God gave people success without stress, they believe that is probably not God.

Because they did not go through, pit, slavery or prison and they became the king. All those were not God’s will for Joseph, they were only processes. And processes are HIGHLY FLEXIBLE. God could have provided another means of making Joseph the Prime minister. His brothers did not have to put him in pit or sell him as prisoner to help God fulfill His will.. NOPE.

But since they did that, GOD THEN WORKED IT OUT FOR THE GOOD OF JOSEPH… REMEMBER, Romans 8:28 says GOD WORKS ALL THINGS (ALL PROCESSES) TOGETHER FOR THE GOOD OF THEM THAT LOVE HIM AND ARE CALLED ACCORDING TO HIS GOOD PURPOSE. ALLELUJAH!!! Another Example: When Israelites asked Samuel for kings. Was it God’s will for them to have kings or for Samuel and his families to continue ruling them? NEITHER.

THE WILL OF GOD WAS FOR THEM TO BE A NATION SEPARATED UNTO GOD, NO MATTER WHO WAS RULING THEM. So whether they had kings or priests as their rulers, God’s will was simple, clear and direct: for them to be His own people and He being their God, for them to live a dedicated life to the only true God. Do you get this? So, the issue of having kings or not having kings are only processes, not the will of God itself.

NOW CONSIDER THIS, EVEN WHILE SAMUEL WAS ALIVE, BEFORE THEY ASKED FOR KINGS, THE ISRAELITES WERE SINNING AGAINST GOD. THEY WERE NOT LIVING OUT THE WILL OF GOD, SO ASKING FOR KINGS WAS SIMPLY PROCESSES. And we will later discuss how to involve God in the processes and how to apply God’s given resources in choosing the right processes of your life.

As for myself and my thoughts on this article, the background of the Good Book is good to have but, I am a simple man. We know good and evil, teach to those who don't and God will order our steps in our righteousness or godliness.
