WIP : Johanna Basford ~ Enchanted Forest River with Derwent Inktense

in #wip6 years ago

There's something about the colder months and colouring in.

For the last few years ever since Hubby bought me my first Johanna Basford colouring in book and a tin of Derwent Inktense, come winter time you'll find me in the warmest, sunniest spot in the house surrounded by books and pencils.

Today, was no different.

Johanna Basford

Johanna Basford is one of my favourite illustrators. Thanks to her my childhood has resurfaced in form of her magnificent colouring in books.

The first book of hers I ever owned was the Secret Garden Artist Edition. I remember turning the thick pages in awe of the beautiful illustrations and I'm pretty sure I thanked God for Johanna.

Colouring in was always my thing.

I only actually just stopped 10ish years ago and back then I was buying kids colouring in books to colouring in with my daughter and nephews.

When the adult colouring in books came out, my mind was blown and it was like someone was smiling down on me saying go re-live those simpler happy times.

Colouring in, for me, was always about getting that hit of colour instead of the art and techniques involved with it. Basically, I colour in like a 5 year old 😁

Since the colouring in craze began I've seen how other people colour in and was instantly wowed at their vision, creativity and skill.

Wishing I had those skillz too.

Instead I have Derwent Inktense.

Is like a watercolour pencil but better. The colours are brighter, more vibrant and as the name suggests, ink like.

Colouring in with Inktense is not like colouring in with pencils, or maybe even water colour pencils. Because the pigment is so rich you don't need to use as much to produce bold vibrant colours.

Enchanted Forest River

It's been a while since I last coloured in, but from memory it took me between a day to a week to colour in a page.

This is a page I've always wanted to do but I loved the illustration so much that I didn't want to ruin it with my colouring.

I'm not the best with colours.

But today I made the leap and hoped for the best.

Here's how I went today.

Still going long after the sun went down.

I checked the time stamp on my photos and the first photo was taken at 3pm, the last at 7pm.

4 hours!! 4 hours and this is how far I got.

I didn't really want to stop but had to due to lighting. I'm just hoping it looks ok in the morning. It was getting really hard to blend the colours in towards the end.

I'd love to be able to frame a page I coloured in one day, maybe this could be it? I suppose we'll find out in the next few days.

Sweet Dreams Steemit.

I hope Tuesday was kind to you.

Thank you for your continued support of SteemSilverGold

You are the best colourer-inner I've ever seen. Those things stress me out. So many things to colour. I have never thought to not just do blocks of colour in all the shapes. Now I'm inspired to try something more creative.
