As a new baby witness this sort of information, whilst accurate inhibits new witnesses from being able to build voters, new witnesses that have yet to produce a block also show in red, but this general lack of knowledge among voters about this key fact has an impact on people willing to entrust their vote to you.

Dead Witnesses (inactive witnesses not running a witness server anymore, showing in red in Drakos' >witnesses page) are still receiving votes from Steemians who probably either:

The Active Rank column represents the effective ranking of witnesses running HF19.
New witnesses have v0.0.0 and will show up as active once they generate their first block, which will set >their running version.

The amount of times I've had to explain to potential voters, that I am in fact not a inactive witness nor a disabled one, despite what a website says.....is genuinely frustrating.

Very good point and I will update the post. However, as a young witness, you would probably start with a lot of social campaign and people will obviously know you are not dead/inactive. Drakos' page also shows a link to your witness announcement page. The point is that Steemians should do their homework and get to know who they are voting for and get up-to0date once in a while.

Maybe @drakos could add a new color scheme for new witnesses so they don't appear as strike out and red if they are at v0.0.0 and their witness_update was submitted recently? Just an idea...

I think this is about educating users AND how witnesses pages are displayed.

That would be great idea for @drakos to look into, and thank you for the advice, its much appreciated.

I often look at all the disabled accounts and its like a wall of dead bodies you have to kind of climb over to move forwards :)

Not bad at all! I will definitely use this tool regularly.

Now my idea also includes something that kind of pings those who votes for dead witnesses. For example, you check which witnesses are dead, you fetch the top 20 voters, you add that into a weekly/monthly report mentioning them.

The tool you made is very useful, but it requires users to know about it and to think of using it. So it would be nice to have another tool that poke them from time to time.
