Nice Cuts on a Tree

Near a path, I noticed some trees that had been trimmed. These branches had some cuts that stood out. I do not know what kind of wood it is, but the color was very pretty. In a home, this wood might look too yellow, though I could not help thinking that it might make nice furniture. And what happened in the last photograph? One branch was shredded as if an animal may have chewed upon it.
