Well the coat rack is on hold...
So went down to the basment to work on the coat rack a bit, and sort of split the board when i was trying to get the pole to fit in the hole
Gave the test piece a few taps with a rubber mallet and pop the board split into 2. Was goignt to just cut another piece, but the rest of the boad has knots across it so I don't want to use that. If the board wasnt cupped I'd just flip it over.
Going to have to go buy a new board in a week or 2 so I can complete this thing and be done with it.
Easily done. I will glue back seamlessy if you are careful or if you choose a new piece use quater saw for stability. Slow grown with close grain will help too. Beech is great for not splitting , that is why they used it for chair seats etc elm too
Yeah this is cheap pine. Probably going to just buy another piece of cheap pine. I wanted a nice coat rack made from nice woods, but dont have the money or tools to do what I want. So instead of waiting the GF wants a coat rack now. So she is getting a cheap coat rack that wont look as nice.
