Back to the 9-5 grind....

I've sent a couple of job applications in this week after reactivating my Linkedin profile stating that I am open to offers. Honestly, I can hardly contain my joy about the thought of sitting behind someone else's desk but needs must, and it won't be forever, he says.

It's been 15 months to the day (yesterday) since I was employed in an IT role, and I suppose that if I'm to keep options open for the future, it's probably an idea to get something else on the CV. Employers are assumed to be weary of people who have nothing of recent note in their file, and I would say a year to 18 months is stretching a 'career break' a little.

I got my last role through Linkedin, but do think I was rather lucky with timing and it might not be so easy this time. I'm not sure how many technical jobs that required a native/fluent English speaker there are in Valencia, but it cant be that many.

This time, (as I was last time I guess) I'm looking further afield. And so far, I've sent my details off to Singapore, the Czech Republic, and to a couple of places in... the UK. Boooooooo!
Unsurprisingly, the UK holds the best chance of me finding work, but probably still goes top of the list as the place I'd least like to move to next. Even more so during this time of year, it'll be fucking cold, wet, and miserable. There are a few positives though....

One of the places I've applied to is in Nottingham, where I lived for 18 years, and not far from where my daughter lives. A 3 month contract role initially, this could be perfect for the feeling that I'm not going to be there forever, and also give me plenty of chance to catch up with my not so little girl. It has been feeling like time to go back in recent times, I'm just a bit scared of how my mood will be come lunchtime the first Monday back in an office.

I've also got plenty of friends in Nottingham, something I don't have here. It's been pretty cool seeing mum a couple of times each week for the past year or so, I didn't expect to be doing that once leaving home for University. 15 months though, and you could say I've just about outstayed my welcome - and really, what good is an outdoor pool in winter.

Thanks mum, I am looking for something to do while the STEEM is in the dumps. I really don't want to sell and part of any earnings for the next job will be used to buy more of this invisible money (and handouts x !) that I've been living off for the past year.

I'd also like to continue being active and engaged on Steem if I do find a 9 to 5. Creating content, working with @utopian-io, the Engagement League, random pie posts, and whatever else sparks my interest. Hopefully there will be time in the evenings to do that, and I'm sure many of you guys are working & Steeming already. Fair play.

The incentive to find fiat is the state of the Crypto market. This might not be the bottom, but I don't think we are too far away and so it would be nice to be a STEEM buyer again, and target 20000 Steem Power, or maybe more. I guess the longer the prices are down, the longer I'll need to work, and the more SP I can buy. Every cloud huh.

So the deed has been done, I am officially hunting for work. Wish me luck!

Cheers

Asher

Good luck. I work a full time job and treat STEEM as a hobby. Its a hobby that might make me a living one day though.

Never power down.

Right. I think this is a sound approach until you have enough SP to earn a good amount through curation. And then in the future (going further from us right now it seems), options to delegate to projects, or by other SMTs.

Sadly, I'm powering down this week. Got witness server bills to pay!

It does not always seem to be panning out quite the way we had hoped, but despite the speed humps... trust that, actually... it is! You may now know the how or why right now... but you will in good time, so look at it as an opportunity for opportunities :)

I see it as an opportunity to by more STEEM :)

12/24 weeks, how bad can it be.

What are you doing now, looking for a job or still making it work here?

Begging on street corners after i drop my son at school every morning and have been contemplating a bank heist.... lol nah....just riding the wave as best I can for now... and eating dry bread and spit lol ;)

hahaha, that sounds deeeeeelicious!

Dry bread? Just add spit!

Well I hope you can ride this wave out, ready for the next biggie, whenever that is :)

Who’s spit? @jaynie

If it’s someone else’s it’s like a treat. Like going out to eat. So fancy in these tough times.

If you can (and are open to it), seriously consider contract work. Things with a limited time scope... gigs that last 2-6 months. A lot of companies like not having to make you an "employee" (at least here in the US) and having to give you bennies. Did it for many years, and it worked quite well (as a contract technical writer). I know it's more competitive now that a lot gets outsourced to Asia, but still might be worth a look.

=^..^=

Yeah I'll be aiming for contract work for sure, it just seems less stressful and with a end. Thanks Cat :)

As requested: Good luck. Hoping on the Nottingham job for you because your daughter. Could be great for your relationship.
Cheers,
Peter

Thank you. Yeah the more I think about it, the more I see that as the best option. We shall see how things pan out.

Cheers!

Good luck on getting hired. So...what % of your salary are you planning to use to buy that sweet cheap STEEM? :D

Taxes/Bills/Rent/Food/STEEM. No idea really, but I'm hoping if I keep it tight on shit I don't need then I'd be able to collect at least a Minnow's worth each month, maybe more!

Sounds good. Best of luck!

ahhh crap Asher, just so shortly ago we were talking about different options but damn this took a turn fast.
(again...if you are looking for a quick big buck... it stars with Sw- and ends with itserland

but yeah living close to your daughter and friends again is also a great call

Yeah I know, Thailand seems so far away now!

I should probably contact those guys near the Alp huh, maybe if I see them with my own eyes I'll get new ideas on where to tunnel through with my trains :)

Thanks, Nottingham does make sense. I'll be there in 13 days anyway, might even be staying for a lil while now.

I told you back then already to go for the tunnel from Lucerne bypassing all of Germany to get in Holland right?

It will be good to be back there for a bit man, you will enjoy it.. Until then.. try to not wear flipflops in December in the UK...people have opinions about that

Ha!

Yeah right, the 22 gazillion dollar tunnel directly to Skunkhouse coffee shop.

Trust me, I wont be packing my flip-flops if I'm heading to the UK. Too much dog shit and water.

Good luck mate, in the same phase right now chasing that fiat!
Hopefully you get that job in Nottingham!

Yeah I don't think we are alone - fiat buys much more crypto than this time last year. Cheers!

That's all i have in mind, buying !!!

You just need to shill enough Steem Monster referrals to not need a 9 to 5!

I use to game with some high rollers as a f2p or budget player. Which was always the fun for me. No luck on the couple of people I've been in touch with. Still was worth the shot though.

I shill it a fair amount, just don't use the referral link.

How are you doing, I'm struggling to get to 1500 - spent hours so far in the mix around 1k.

I’m just in bronze II only doing my dallies. Not sure how far I’m going push this league. I have stuff going on in other games starting Friday and I’ll be very busy. I was kind of counting on getting placed into higher league and not the reset we got. While I could try and push now I don’t want to spend an alarming amount of time trying get back down to where I can do my dallies.

It was at least nice to hit champion a few times in the past. I expected at some point it would be out of my reach as more and bigger and active accounts start playing in the long run. I just hope I’m not a bronze finisher!

I've only just escaped bronze, tough going!

Not tried the daily's yet, I guess while I'm down here I should be looking at that.

Enjoy being busy :)

There are tons of IT jobs in Scotland. And it's fucking ace. True the weather is probably something out of a horror film for you but still, not too far from down south either :0)

I wouldn't rule out Scotland, perhaps a special guest star on the friday beer tasting show could be an option :D :D

Haha, that would be awesome!!

A 3 month contract would be cool, a lot can happen in that time and okay the weather be shit but i bet it be nice to be home for a while too

Yeah, ideal really. Maybe stretch it to 6 and hope the market turns during this time. We shall see :)
