If the Democrats continue to send a message that they will defend the affordable health care act, that message will not help Democrats gain support or win the 2018 midterms. If they run on a medicare for all message the Democrats are more likely to win the midterms and gain support from the Democratic base.
Putting a check on all of the excesses of the Trump era. That is sufficient.
