Journey to the village

The sun was quite dull for reasons best known to God, or so Jake thought. He sat with his heavy eyes, staring at the evening sun as it radiated with bliss. He wondered how God was able to create such an unimaginable substance that brightened the earth as a whole.

Of course some scientist have a different theory as to how the sun came about but whatever it was, Jake concluded it was totally awesome.

New Orleans LA was known for the cold towards evening and Jake quickly scrambled through his wardrobe to find a winter jacket.

Jake tucked himself into a corner of the couch and settled in to watch his favorite T.V. programme as he waited for his parents to come home.

"They were one inseparable family until last year when work and responsibilities came in between.
Now they barely noticed him, they employed a baby sitter and most times he would be fast asleep before their arrival and before he opens his eyes the next morning, they are gone already."

*They had always been one inseparable family until last year when work and responsibilities came in between them.

Now it seemed they barely noticed him. They employed a baby sitter and most nights he would be fast asleep before came home and they were gone again before he opened his eyes the next morning.*

The living room was indeed a perfect description of a wealthy home. It was painted in Cream, pale gold and teal blue. Long cream, brocade type fabric sofas, 5 brown leather cuddle chair; two footstool, Fruitwood - stained fairly dark - large cabinet, huge coffee table with loads of drawers and a console table.

_A large 44inch plasma TV, alongside a standardized home theatre. A Carved wood - over 2ft tall with cream silk shades. Dark wood fireplace surround with a silvery black horse-shoe shaped inner and gas fire. Pale gold silk and fabric curtains. A large, long room yet looks all cosy when lights on!! Polished solid oak floor.

*Naomi, his babysitter, noticed him trailing off to sleep so she gently nudged him and whispered.

"Jake? How about you go to bed? I am not sure dad and mum would be home soon"

Jake didn't resist as he used to, this time he accepted the fact that they were never going to be home early even if he desired it.

And so he sighed in disappointment and took to his room. The moment he touched the bed his eyes trailed off to sleep.

Douglas Feral and his wife Sara got home hours later. Their eyes were bloodshot from fatigue. Douglas took a while to sit on the cushion chair and sigh several times in distress while Sara went for a cup of coffee for both of them.

Naomi noticed something different about them, it wasn't the usual expression of stress they had this time, something else was bothering them and she could easily see it would involve Jake.

"Is there any problem ma'am?"

She asked while pouring out the coffee into two tumblers for both man and wife.
Sara feigned a smile and replied in place of her husband.

"Nothing much dear, how is Jake?"

"Oh he is asleep now. He is perfectly fine"

Her response was quite satisfactory, but then she was taken aback when Sara said,

"Please can you wake him i have something to tell him"

She fathomed that interfering wouldn't go well with the couple so she did just as they requested and brought Jake to the living room. It took a while for Jake to understand that he wasn't in dream land, this was reality, he was actually face to face with his parents he had not set eyes on for quite a while.

"Mom? Dad?"

Sara gave him a positive nod and opened her hands to welcome him when he went for an embrace.
"I have missed you both so much"

"We missed you too Jake"

It took another minute for Jake to read the look on their faces, they had something to say and he didn't need a soothsayer to reveal that it was something he'd like.

"Son?"
Douglas took charge now as he brought Jake to sit with him.

"You parents are going to save lives"

Jake didn't get the point; saving life was good but he knew it wouldn't end well.

"What do you mean dad?"

Douglas cleared his throat, looked to Sara who gave a go ahead with a nod before he continued.

"Dad and mom has been awarded a project that would save lives and because this project is demanding, we would be out of the country for a while"

Douglas gave Jake a minute or two to digest his words. Jake was quite blank with no expression to spurn his words so he continued.

"So Jake, we would have to drop you off with your grandparents, trust me you would love it"

Jake's next expression revealed how disappointed and sad he was. He bowed his head and was going to let out a tear but he fought it.

He was expecting a positive turn around somehow, maybe they realised how they neglected him for work, and maybe they were ready to go for a change, those were his expectations. But instead, they went even too far this time to crown it up.

"You are sending me away?"

There was hurt in his voice and both man and wife could perceive it. Quickly, Sara took him into her arms and smoothed his hair as she whispered.

"No darling, mom and dad are doing this for you, so you would have a brighter future. And trust me, you would enjoy your stay with your grandparents"

And so it was settled then, the next morning Jakes' bags were well packed. Naomi was laid off for a while but Douglas never failed to pay her 3months in alliance. He was that kind.

"You would be heading to a village called Chang rai"

Jake remembered his fathers' words as he Journeyed. He had never heard of such place before. And now, he couldn't fight the curiosity and boiled in his veins.

"It's a village in Thailand son, where your grandparents work on a farm"

Sara had explained further.

Jake had lots of questions welled up within him now. He had never been to a farm. What was it like to work in a farm?
He had seen enough movies and read enough fairy tales to be quite certain he would encounter ghosts and scary creatures. At one point he felt he was thinking too much.
At a point he felt he was thinking too much. But one thing he was sure of, this was going to be a great adventure.
