errare humanum est
errare humanum est
mistakes are no cardinal sin,
it is a moulding of our inner wisdom,
raising chalice to future harm.
a child learns to avoid the raging flame,
a validated acquisition of experience,
bolstered by recollection of agony.
the value of making the mistake returns dividends,
imagine a life where no investment in mistakes were made?
an anomaly as such would bear dire consequences,
yet for a child it is a rite of passage,
navigating the minefields of life itself.
adults walk the plains with full awareness of responsibility,
mistakes in passing have taught the skills to evade,
this is the greatest sin of all,
relinquishing curiosity,
fixating in comfort zones,
refusing adventure.
for what?
conservation,
safety,
preservation and what else?
cowardliness behaviour bears no accolades,
no sense of achievement,
a perpetuation of holding back is what makes us human.
i persist in error,
not out of pride,
but out of fascination.
by no means is it diabolical.

The Opposite of Virtue
One might say, a vice is a vise
never mind if metal or moral,
it’s basically the same device
with cunning moveable jaws
designed to fix us in place
and cheat us of a chance at grace
Impervious to all advice, habit
hotly whispers false reassurance
while tightening its iron grip
It takes no effort to slip into vice,
but virtue is trickier to stick to
like the back of a bucking bronco.
