The Ghost on the Golf Course - Part Two

in #writing5 years ago (edited)

The scene at the Bell on the sixth green is the most famous part of this tale.

It has become a rite of passage for high school kids in Victoria to try to reenact certain events from that fateful night in 1936. It all began with the ringing of a bell. Legend says quite simply that if you ring the bell, she will come!

Before I go further I want to set the scene by giving you a wider view of the haunted golf course. I won't mention the name because I've heard the current owners are not thrilled by all the publicity which they see as a negative thing.

Just look at this place... I don't know how anyone could concentrate on their golf game, playing in this beautiful scenery! But take a second look as dusk settles. Can you sense it? Can you hear that tiny voice in the back of your mind? Turn back now!

Doris and Victor were separated. Apparently, he was a mean drunk but Doris still loved him. Over time they had begun to speak again. Victor wanted a reconciliation and Doris was at least willing to listen. They started taking walks together on the golf course in the evenings. Doris was living nearby and Victor would show up and ring the bell. That sound carries for a long distance! Doris would come out and together they would stroll and sometimes visit the Oak Bay Hotel for drinks or dinner. It is believed that on their final night together this is exactly what happened.

There really are no further details available. They must have argued - perhaps about money or about Victor's drinking problems. In any case, the police figure they fought, he killed her somewhere near the sixth green, and then dragged her body a quarter mile down to the shore. Why did he remove her shoes? I honestly think he didn't want her heels scuffing up the green as he dragged her body! If you remember, Victor's body was discovered a full month later tangled up in a bed of seaweed a hundred yards offshore. Her shoes were in his pocket.

It must be hell to live in the neighbourhood because that bell often rings out loud during the night as amateur ghost hunters try their luck. Most people admit that nothing happens but I will never forget my first try.

I stepped over the small fence separating the course from the sidewalk on Beach Drive. I walked over beside the green and grabbed the rope, my camera in the other hand. As I pulled the rope a loud clang split the cool night air and I shivered uncontrollably. I knew it even before I looked... here she comes!

To be continued...

Never trust a Victor with a bell in one hand and a golf club in the other!

That sure is a beautiful golf course @keithboone. Dusk sheds an intriguing air of expectancy over the place and even though I read your warning, I simply could not turn back. I'm not sacred of Doris! Am I?

I'm inclined to agree with your theory about Doris's shoes. Victor cared more about scuffing the surface of the green than protecting his own wife. Did he miss her after he killed her? Is this why her shoes were found in his pocket after he died or was killed?

Did Doris speak to you when she appeared from nowhere when you rang the bell? So many questions. So few answers.........I will most definitely return for the third, exciting installment.

I'm so glad you're coming along for the ride, Trudee! It's good to have some company on a journey like this! Doris does not speak to me. She moans, and she screams. I honestly can't say whether it's out loud or not. I think I'm only hearing these things in my mind. What is most terrifying is when she seems to whisper and I can almost make sense of her words. Such an enticing sound...

Beware the whispering ghost! A whisper can be a lot more menacing than words spoken or even shouted. But did you admit to feeling enticed by this moaning, screaming, Keith whisperer? Ooooooh.......how the plot thickens.

Here she comes indeed. Cool photo!

Thank you! Stay tuned for part three when we will see her playing in traffic. Doris just loves a good car crash!

Great ghost story, Keith. Looking forward to next part. Poor Doris is still looking for her shoes.👠 Probably better to see Doris’s ghost than Victor as he’s mean. U&R

Thank you, that's funny about her looking for her shoes! Why didn't I think of that? I've often wondered what happened to Victor's ghost. There are no mentions of Victor and I've certainly never seen him. You'll have to stick around to see if Doris is mean or not. She certainly does like to mess with traffic along Beach Drive where it cuts through the golf course! I believe that part of the story is coming up next... :-)

Thank you for all your support @steemimages @molometer!

Howdy sir Keith! another wonderful installment! That golf course is so perfectly beautiful it looks like a painting, almost too perfect! And that's a great picture of Doris too, very creepy. It's a great story and I like what redheadpei said about Doris is looking for her shoes! lol. As a male I wouldn't have thought of that either. Anyway, great job. I'm only 10 hours from starting to vote again.

Hehe, I know, right? Leave it to a woman to stress out over lost shoes! I almost thought about dropping the whole story at this point because I'm about 99% convinced @redheadpei just solved the whole mystery!

Anyhow, I'm happy you like the story, that means a lot to me. Normally I worry more about the photos but this time I'm trying hard to tell a good story. I've got about 5 pictures left and a fair bit of story to cover. I'm about ready to get on with the next chapter, and I'll probably post it tomorrow. Thanks again, my friend!

howdy again sir Keith..well your pictures are so good that you don't have to worry about them! And the story is a cool one and it's going over a little better than you thought last night so that's good.
redheadpei accidently solved the mystery? lol.

I actually want to hear her explain the next chapter about all the all the mayhem on Beach Drive. I've got some good photographic evidence which doesn't involve shoes... unless we're talking about brake shoes! :-)

haha! It will be interesting to hear her take on it for sure!

You two ...@keithboone and @janton. 😂. A woman can get pretty upset and witchy when her shoes are missing. 😃
I’ll see what I can do with the 3rd part. 👻 👻

haha! witchy and bitchy that's for sure! even ghosts! lol.

It was a BRILLIANT observation on your part @redheadpei ... Doris is only looking for her shoes... Oh man, the time I could have saved on this whole thing! ;-)

😂 👞 👠 👟. I wonder what kind she wore?

Not a lot of variety or colour in 1936 but great prices compared to today.

Well, Holy Hell! I came over here to be wowed, and yes... I did get what I came and was aroused by the curiosity of who dun it? Well, we all can surmise the demise of poor Doris, sans shoes, no less.

But, did Doris do it? Did she have help? How does one know you will be coming back to seek revenge?

Yikes, Keith. The goosebumps are real. No more Victoria for me!

!tip

Thank you very much, Denise! Episode four will be coming soon. As for Victoria, we do have other golf courses, so you don't have to stay away entirely :)

Oh, I know! :) I love Canada in general. You really do spin a good story. Thank you for sharing that part of yourself.

I meant to add that the other courses are far more dangerous - if you play golf. It's standard operating procedure to keep alligators on 15 ft chains in the bunkers. ;-)

Hahaha! You goofus! I almost believed you. :)) Now, if you had said crocodiles...

What? Is there a difference? I really got to get out more...

Somedays, I can't tell the difference. You are too funny. I need to go shovel more. Can you believe I got snow?

Pfft. You would think I lived in Canada or something.

You're welcome here any time. I'll send you a map to where we left a secret opening in the hedge...

I am loving this series! Your ghost photos are awesome, thanks for sharing this ghost story here :)

Thanks so much, I'm glad you like it!
