What is the true essence of Christmas?

Its the Christmas season once again, the most anticipated time of the year. Every now and then, we hear Christmas carols played in restaurants, malls and even in the neighbourhood. Streets are adorned with bright sparkling lights. Huge lanterns are hung on each house's windows. People flock the shopping centers, busy looking for great buys to gift their loved ones. Literally, we can say that Christmas is in the air as people are very busy preparing for this very special occasion.
But what really is the essence of Christmas?
Is it about making wishlist?
Is it about buying special gifts?
Or, is is about receiving gifts?
Well, for me, the true essence of Christmas is LOVE. Why love? Because I believe that everything you are anticipating this Christmas is because of love. Why we have Christmas in the first place? It is because God loves us very much that he sent his only Son for our salvation. You are looking for things to give for loved ones, right? Giving is also a sign of loving. Would you care to give someone something if you do not love him?
But I am not saying as well that if you do not give someone a gift means you do not love him. I know, as a matter of fact how difficult it is nowadays to earn money. Add to it the fact that all commodities' prices are soaring. But, why don't we give someone something more valuable than money?
There is nothing more special than giving someone something more valuable than money. Why not give a little of your time who needs a companion? An ear ready to listen to someone who needs someone to talk to? A shoulder to cry on to someone who feels that everything is against him? And a helping hand to someone who needs?
Even how broke we are, we can still be a Santa Claus to someone. How about sharing what little you have in your pocket to someone who is broke?
Christmas is not about giving expensive gifts to someone. You may have given him something very expensive but are you sure that is what he needs? Yes, material things can give temporary joy but your time and effort will forever be etched in their hearts and that is the true essence of Christmas. Giving what someone really needs.
