Reflection "The Forbidden Education"

Today I will be commenting on an interesting documentary about the educational reform that has been evident in schools in Latin America in recent times.

The documentary "The Forbidden Education" is given from a paradigmatic approach where the need for a change in the structures of traditional models is evident; taken from the opinions of diverse experiences, which raise the need for a new educational system or other curricular development.

Since its inception, the school institution has been characterized by structures and practices that today are considered obsolete and wrong. Within the context of the topic it is said that parents and teachers are not listening to the child, which causes them to fail and it turns out that it is not the student who fails but rather the educational system; since, the teachers are following patterns often learned from a very behavioral model such as the theories of Ivan P. Pavlov (1849-1936), they do not set out to look for another development that goes beyond, but the conventional model, which is focused on the contents themselves, focusing the work in some capacities where only formal knowledge matters, categorize the student by levels and are evaluated objectively with measurable and quantifiable scales.


It stimulates a lot to compete, to give recognition to the best and this greatly influences the student's personal life. Since an ideal concept of school should start with the recognition of values: (community, love, respect, equality ... among others) and our schools suppress in trying to inculcate a system that is teaching competitive levels, repression, individualism, discrimination, conditioning, violence; then the student: (obeys, competes, suffers, consumes, distrusts) and it is for the same reason that the teacher comes from a fragmented paradigm where he focuses on giving the material content without worrying about the student's welfare.


For a traditional teacher it is easier to apply old school standards, precisely because they are children of a system that conditioned them that way. This is how schools seek to measure knowledge by creating conflicts at a cognitive level and the reality is that each person is different, with different potentials.

The school should be a space for personal growth and not a place to train for a future high school, university and for work. Nowadays the ideal would be to help them to raise awareness and overcome barriers with the total capacity to carry out activities autonomously; of the family, both personally and economically.

Although it is not possible to have a physical or economic autonomy quickly will teach them to be responsible, independent and aware of their own actions. However, the film leaves a great educational teaching, which impacts and teaches us to reflect, who we are, what we want, what we teach as teachers and what we practice in the classroom, so it is important that the teacher reflects the ideology and practice with the students using the classroom workshop or consider promoting participation, so that the student identifies himself and discovers his own abilities.
