Story From A Picture #3

in #writing6 years ago

As you may remember from yesterday's story, prize hog, Rufus T Engelton had been used to relaxing at his barnyard home and had been anticipating a date with the tantalizing sow Susie Riddleton... although he found her attractive for different reasons than you or I might.

Rufus had been unexpectedly loaded into the back of the farmers truck. He did like the truck though. It was a bit loud for his ears, but he liked that he could feel the wind in his face. And as a large pig, Rufus had never gone very quickly, so achieving the speeds of over 45 MPH was quite something. Just wait until he could tell the chickens about this. They might not even believe so wild a tale.

It was a bright, sunny day when they left the farm, but they had been driving for almost an hour and clouds had started to roll in. Not the fluffy ones that look like marshmallows, but the dark ones that carry lightning. Rufus wasn't a fan of lighting... or of rain. He preferred to sit in a nice, dirty mud hole rather than have the rain slowly wash him clean.

It began pouring rain, the kind so think you can barely see. The farmer slowed his truck down, but the rain still obscured most of the windshield. It was due to this obstruction that the farmer didn't see a large branch in the road. And it just so happened that at the same moment the back tires of the truck rolled over the branch, Rufus was stretching his sizable nose to reach the tasty leaves that were going by (at 30 MPH). Thus, between Rufus' stretching and the truck bouncing from hitting the branch, Rufus was tossed from the back of the truck and into the mud at the side of the road.

That was slightly longer than 5 minutes (the allotted time for a normal challenge), but I so seldom indulge @glenalbrethsen with enough followup materials to my original premises that I thought it prudent to at least lead it to a point where something had been accomplished. I'm still new to writing and newer still to timed writing, so I choose to give myself some flexibility on the matter.

Can I just say that it would be nice to have more license-free pig/hog pictures? If you're a photographer, I wouldn't mind more. Ha ha

A continuation of yesterday's story. If you find a hog's picture, will it continue? I am interested on Rufus' fate.

I'll be honest, I had to search for this one. It wasn't one that I found randomly. I wanted to continue the adventure, so I sought one out. I will need more though, so if you have one of a large black pig, you can send it to me. :)

And, there goes Rufus! Well, whatever this is, (end of the line, party, vacation), it's turning into an adventure, whether it was the intended one (for the farmer) or not.

Keep us on our toes, wanting more.

That's good, and bad. Good we're on our toes wanting more. Bad, in case you were done with this the first time around and you are only indulging me. I think it's cool of you to do so, but no obligations here. I just like to see creative juices flowing. And you're doing a freestyle freewrite! :)

It is turning into something rather interesting. Much more of an adventure than the farmer has intended, but we have yet to see where it will lead.

Thanks for the picture of the hog. I should be able to use that one!

I can never do timed writing. Nothing will get written if I tried! I'm new to fiction writing too; sometimes it flows, other times..ehh. Great story. :)

I view it as an opportunity for me to stretch my abilities. It gives me something to write about other than silver, and it allows me to delve into something which I otherwise might not.

I hope to see some of your fiction at some point. :)

I love this story of Rufus and hope he's not going to the market ... as produce, not just for a visit.

Can your farmer eventually find him and be really happy about it?

Or perhaps they were on their way to a competition and he wins?

Anything but this!

Although that does look good, doesn't it? :)

We're not sure what's going to happen to ol' Rufus yet. It's really hot today, so I might get to writing more. I just want to get in some water and cool off.

We finally had some rain today and it cooled off for a bit! But it's hot again now. Does it cool off their at night at least? Vancouver used to.

That brief rain is a nice reprieve. I haven't seen one for a while. Yes, it cools somewhat at night, so around 11pm we can open the windows and get some cooler air. Thank goodness for fans and our little AC unit.

We've tried to shut off our air conditioner because the electric bills are the only thing that is expensive here, but within seconds it's 90+ in the apartment. With the building being made of concrete, it seems to heat up and never cool down; that and the outside temperature stays the same at night too haha

That really sucks. Too bad they don't have something made of wood that could breathe a bit better. Maybe then it could release some of the heat and let you cool off. That's a bummer it doesn't really cool down at night. That's been very helpful for us. That being said, I do have the AC on right now. Ha ha.

August is a killer here; it easily hits 105+ daily, and there's a lot of humidity too! Ah well, first world problems in a close-to-third-world country. At least we have air conditioning to be thankful for!

Wow, that's toasty. Even as hot as it is here, I can't imagine what the firefighters in Redding, CA were dealing with. Not only were they fighting a fire, but they were doing it in 115 degree temperatures. I don't think I could even go outside in 115.

Yes, AC can be a lifesaver!

"the tantalizing sow" haha! brilliant writing my friend, just super good. And you don't think you're a very good writer..ha! but now we're all captivated by Rufus's situation, what happens to him now? great job sir.

I'm glad you like it! I'm just making it up as I go. I haven't figured out what happens to him yet. I'll have to ask. I'm sure he would be happy to share the story with me.

haha! yes sir good old Rufus T... I'm sure he would be happy to!

Oh, and I'll just add here since I sent the other comment that I'm seeing a few more hog photos on pixabay if any of them interest you. I mean they don't look exactly like the ones you've been using for Rufus, but they might do if there's nothing better. I haven't scrolled through all of them either.

There's this one. :)
