It's not his birthday today or the anniversary of his death but thoughts out to Cyprian Ekwensi.
Alongside Chinua Achebe, Elechi Amadi and other writers of the African writers series Cyprian shaped the literary future of African and made it known to the world that Africans could write.
I still remember the cold shivers when I first read African Night Entertainment, I was very young then, Abu and his quest for revenge. Till today Burning Grass still bursts my brain, how did you think of such.
I doubt if we will ever see such a class of elite writers in our lifetime. It is the foundation you and your friends built that our literary culture still rests on today.
