According to TASS, a Russian intellectual property startup has signed a memorandum with the politicians of the Uzbek capital Tashkent, to integrate blockchain technology into its copyright system.

The president of the Russian National Intellectual Property Transactions Coordination Center (IPChain) Andrey Krichevsky met the head of the Tashkent Innovation Department Jasur Zakhidov during the Open Innovations Forum in Moscow. Both sides have agreed to implement decentralized solutions to protect copyrights in various sectors, such as intellectual property and patent registration.

Zakhidov then explained that blockchains could help to develop the whole sphere of copyright and make it profitable, observing that “usually, scientists, inventors and creators do not fully understand how to monetize their intellectual property”:

“Our partnership […] will most likely give impetus to the development of the intellectual property sector in Uzbekistan, and from now on we know that copyright really works and is profitable.” As capital, we need to support the authors and show them how they can monetize their creations. ”

According to the IPChain press release, the program will begin with the digitization of patents registered in Tashkent, implementing the IPchain ecosystem in the local patent office systems.

As reported by Cointelegraph in April, IPChain has already signed an agreement with the Kyrgyz state patent office, which provides for the digitization of registers and the implementation of a database based on blockchain. According to the head of IPchain, similar projects have already been discussed with Armenian officials.

Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has taken several important steps to promote blockchain technology in the country. In July, he signed a document entitled “On measures for digital economics in the Republic of Uzbekistan”, which states that by 2020 the country will integrate blockchain systems in the areas of customs clearance, loans and finance.

In September, Mirziyoyev also ordered the establishment of a state fund for the development of blockchain technology called “Digital Trust”. According to the program, decentralized solutions will be implemented in healthcare, education and culture.
