What happens with my back when I am a Yoga beginner student?

in #yoga6 years ago

It is common for my students to tell me how much their back hurts when they just start taking Yoga classes, and I always tell them that it is the column speaking helping to learn to listen to it, they are changing their bad posture! And it is the column that resists and that causes them pain.

Many Masters hold and teach that Yoga should not hurt, I prefer to
stay with the theory and teachings of Master Guruji Iyengar and my
Master of Iyengar, who have taught me that it is good to reach that
point of pain where we can recognize that something is happening and therefore a change will occur.

The column is resistant because we spend most of the day hunched in front of the computers or badly sitting in a chair or in bed or in an armchair.

So my advice as a Hatha Yoga Instructor, is to not be discouraged and to continue working on the practice, allow yourself to guide and trust your teachers, take care and give yourself the time necessary to rejuvenate and reeducate the column, what you will be doing is a postural reeducation that's why they feel it and that's why in the beginning it hurts or bothers.

This same can apply to most asanas or Yoga postures, always with awareness and attention, the body will know when it is a pain by postural reeducation or because we are demanding on an inflamed area, injured or injured, obviously in these cases there is never than to insist on these positions until we heal or maybe they are not allowed for us,

Yoga, in addition to teaching us to know ourselves, teaches us to accept and look for ways to overcome our limitations, looking for alternatives and seeing the opportunities that appear before them .

I liked reading your post. Never heard anyone mention back trouble because of yoga. I did it for a while but simply do not like it.

Hello @wakeupkitty, thanks for sharing! If you don´t like it, you must try another school, Yoga has now a big range of options for all tastes. Take a look to my post: https://steemit.com/yoga/@marceladiomede/discover-your-type-of-yoga
Maybe you find yours! Good luck!

Thanks for the advice. I will pay your other post a visit now

Thank you @marceiladiomede for this information. I have always accepted and acknowledged any pain coming from the practice of my disciplines. It is indeed the body speaking it's language.
Also I have come to understand (this is only my interpretation and not be taken as advice) that when you practice Yoga the mind changes. So the body aches are not merely muscle aches, they are actually the body shedding the "past" and recreating itself to suit the "new" MIND.
Great and important information for beginners, so as to welcome the pain and keep on practicing without giving up.
One must always use common sense though, to not go overboard, and have a proper, trained instructor.

thanks for sharing! I love how you explain your yoga interiorization!
