You might say that everything in life is like this, and that we live in a superficial society governed by visual stimulus, and you would be right. This technique is employed everywhere in all industries, and has had tremendous success. It wasn't really till social media that other every day lifestyle photography items made it to the limelight.
In the picture above, I've tried to do my best in taking a minimalistic shot of my supper which I prepared myself. I tried to keep some resemblance of symmetry along the horizontal by letting the plates dictate the vertices of my boundaries. I also make sure to have one rice bowl above and below the "mirror" line.
