The Great Divide | Microfiction
“We’re still friends right?” Susie peered down, hesitant to meet my gaze.
Wordless, Susie removed the embroidered bracelet from her wrist and returned it to me.
Then she walked away to join a clique of Prada-wearing girls whose daddies owned bungalows with swimming pools and Porsches.
This is my entry in @felt.buzz's zapfic contest, with the prompt: contrast. The contrast here between the poverty-stricken narrator and rich Susie is implied here.
Children play with each other regardless of their differences, and it's their parents that teach them these arbitrary, even harmful, distinctions.
That is the sad reality of life.

Little pain when reading the actual story, huge pain reading the paragraphs followed after it...yes, reality is painful. Not every distinction is needed, but humans are indeed complicated 😐

Hello @lilacse, welcome to the Power House Creatives community! <3 (I saw on discord that you've just joined.)
Yes I totally feel what you mean! Sometimes we human beings over-complicate things that can actually be very simple.
Thanks for your welcome! And being like to overcomplicate things seem to be one of the characteristics of humans...I can't count how many times I had done it 😂
