Scientists revive zombie plants

in #zombie6 years ago

Aquatic plants buried underground for centuries or even longer can be revived and raised, a new study suggests. "Lakes of Ghosts". These lakes have not been drained properly in time, but have simply been filled with soil and vegetation under farmland.

The restoration of some of them (especially the ecosystems that have been hidden for long periods underground) can be a valuable way to save species that were thought to be extinct. This will reduce losses in biodiversity in the lake region.

After careful study of three different places, scientists have discovered three lakes buried for periods of respectively 40, 50 and 150 years. Of these teams are "resurrected" 8 separate plant species after a series of experiments in laboratories.
