Unbroken Hearts: A Tale of Defiance and Love

Defiance...

The only story that comes to my mind - it's a story of a girl who defied the norms, expectations and constraints imposed by her family and the society. It will not be a very detailed one. And it certainly would lack the coherence or the chain of events. It will be very brief and still you will get the whole picture. One more thing, you and her, may come from a totally different background in terms of culture, religion, ethnicity, and even the norms of her home to be specific - but I can almost guarantee that you will understand what she intends to convey.

Listen to this story in her own words...
Hold on one minute before I narrate her story; the genre of her story is dramedy.

You might say there wasn't a noble reason,
But honestly, matters of the heart were still new to me. For me it is as noble as it could be

Growing up in a household where men ruled,
I dared to step outside those rigid lines...

Just chatting with guys from my class was a big no-go,
Yet somehow, I found myself giving my heart away freely.

And then it happened, like a whirlwind,
I did the forbidden...
A girl who stirred up trouble in the family.

There was chaos and outrage,
In a home where the word "love" between a girl and boy was practically forbidden.

How could I even think about being with him?
How could I ignore what everyone would say or think?

And then his family pushed back even harder,
Especially his mom, who couldn't stand the idea of him being with me.

There were countless sleepless, tear-filled nights.
My heart would stop just at the thought of him not being mine... I couldn't breathe.

How long could he endure, when the threats persisted,
Emotional turmoil never ceased by his side.
In their eyes, I was stealing away their only son,
The fear, the insecurity, it consumed them whole.

And one day my mom, she said to me,
"How much more shameless must one be,
To simply give up, let him go free?"

And I tried, and I cut off all the ties,
Those were the hardest days and nights of my life.
But then he called me after a month and I heard him cry for the first time in my life. And my heart broke into millions of pieces.

And that very moment I decided that noone can tear us apart. My resolution made me so bold. I didn't fear anyone...

There were many more hurdles but we stood our ground,
And eventually, they had to accept us.

Yet, that was just the beginning of the struggle...
But the life happened to continue and now the past seems to be fading a bit.

Looking back, I think, how did I defy? How did I summon such courage? The only interpretation I see; it was the strength of courage and a belief in my own resilience!

Nowadays we enjoy mint margarita in our humble abode. I am happy to report: All is well in the universe.

Did you see the title of this post? Unbroken Hearts...! Funny isn't it? The hearts, could they be broken 💔... Glass, on the other hand, can be. And there were a little too many broken glasses in this story...

So, this was the story of defiance today. And for those who are familiar with Indian cinema, well, I'm still under the aftereffects of watching Heeramandi, a Netflix show.

Sort:

The woman's parents "smelled" grandchildren. Then used child psychology to force the union.

Good story.

Yes, like with Prince Harry and Megan Markle(?). Prince Phillip admitted it when he reminisced about calling in Harry and he said, ...

I know that all over the world there was a custom of marrying or arranging marriages for the sake of the family. Sometimes it was just a business...

Nevertheless, I have never understood how people who suffered from this practice themselves could later do the same to their children.

What would the customs do if the most shy, most handsome, and most intelligent guy in the class made the first move? The girl would undoubtedly fall head over heels...
Poor girl ;-)))

There are instances whereby we just need to let some people go in our life. The issue actually is just that we are afraid of losing them sometimes

So true.

But letting go is the hardest part. Once you learn it, you can live in peace. Alas! Some people are not that strong...

And they happily lived ever after

You have written such a bold story. I'm imperessed. I don't get it when parents become hurdle in the way of their children's love.

I mean it's the right of every adult to get married where their heart is. Even our religious encourages us to ask kids first before marrying them.

But nah.
This ugly system is find in every family in every culture💔

And they happily lived ever after

The happily ever after is so overrated. Maybe they didn't have the picture-perfect end to their story, but it's their story, and they are happy.

From a parent's perspective, I think they want the best for their kids. However, in most cases, this resistance is only the product of their own ego, insecurity, and just-because-it's-the-way mentality

Most of the time instead of caging someone as it might look, it is just better that one should let one go just as in the case of the man

Definitely, you have to set them free...

The cage never is a solution!
