Cement and concrete are the most popular elements used in the construction of all types of buildings and infrastructure, which is why according to existing data it is estimated that around four billion tons of cement alone are consumed annually in the world, which gives a idea of the number of uses we give to this material.

But cement has a problem, it is not eternal and needs maintenance, over time cracks occur that not only affect the aesthetics but also pose a risk of collapse if proper maintenance is not done, in fact it is estimated that hundreds of billions of dollars annually worldwide in the maintenance of these structures.

That is why it is normal to investigate new technologies that improve the quality of cement by mixing it with different materials. Of all those used, the one that seems to take the cake is sugar cane bagasse, bagasse is the fibrous residue resulting from process applied to sugarcane for the extraction of its juice.

A team of researchers from Kohn Kaen University and Suranare University of Technology in Thailand are developing cane biocement, which they have called IBFC, and have found that mixing the cement with sugarcane waste and a certain type of bacteria this acquires the ability to seal cracks and self-repair.

The bacteria added to the mixture are called Lysinibacillus and it is these bacteria that give this cane bagasse bio-cement the superpower of repairing itself like in science fiction movies, and apparently more than a thousand million tons of sugarcane bagasse are generated worldwide that will now can have a new use.

But you already know that, as usually happens, these are only laboratory experiments and there is still a lot to investigate to know how these bacteria behave in the long term or if they can even be harmful to us, even so it is good that they continue looking for solutions because the construction fever does not seem to be slowing down.

That is another wonderful discovery that will really help our society I am so sure of that certainly

Actually if this new discovery can really be experimented and proven to be true, it will really go a long way in helping the world of construction I must confess

I am actually loving this new discovery and how it is really working so much. Science is working massively

This is actually the first time I am hearing about this update and I must say it is really a great update if well maintained. Well let's see how it will actually goes around
