Workers' Rights Advocacy:

I am a worker and have been celebrating 1st May as a Labor Day which is celebrated all over the world in the month of May. Although in my present country, Labor Day is celebrated on the first Monday in October in the Australian Capital Territory, New South Wales, and South Australia. Likewise in the states of Victoria and Tasmania, it is the second Monday in March with a different name. And then in Western Australia, Labour Day is the first Monday in March with decent reasons to dedicate this day to the workers.

What I am trying to say is that the significance and day of celebrating Labor Day may vary in different countries but it gives a message that the contribution of workers is important in the society and they should be given respect and justice.

Labor Day which was an unfamiliar word to everyone for a long time. The workers had to struggle a lot for their rights. Earlier, no one used to give importance to labor or there were any laws for them. But on May 1, 1886, Labor Day started in America and a new era of hope began in the minds of the workers.

From then on the workers understood their importance and took several decisions for themselves. The labor unions together decided that they would not work for more than 8 hours. Before that, these laborers used to work for 10-16 hours and there was no one to take care of them.

However, on this day the International Labor Organization organizes many programs to promote the workers. We still see that this day is not important in our society and among the people. Even today, many people are unaware of the importance of Labor Day.

Workers ensure the basic infrastructure of society and conduct production through labor, which makes social and economic development possible. The contribution of workers to society is important not only economically but also in terms of their rights and social status. This day started being celebrated, respecting workers and raising their voices for their rights.

The main reason for this is a lack of awareness among the people. Like other days, it is important to tell people about this important day. The second main reason is the lack of strong labor organizations. These are the reasons behind the situation of workers in the country and they all indicate a lack of strong labor organizations.

Not only this, our workers do not know about the laws implemented by the government. Due to this, firstly they are deprived of their rights and secondly, the people of the owner class also exploit them. Our country is an agricultural country and the number of laborers here is also more than expected. In such a situation, people should be aware of the rights of the workers who shed blood and sweat and wander from door to door in search of work.

Gender Equality in the Workplace:

Our government is working tirelessly towards the global goals of gender equality and empowerment of women for sustainable development but when it comes to gender equality and women's rights, we still have a long way to go.

There are still very few women among our representatives in the national parliament and on average they earn less than men. Women are generally responsible for the majority of unpaid care work. This means we must aim to eliminate all forms of discrimination against women and girls, ensure women's full and effective participation in leadership and decision-making, and recognize and value unpaid caregiving.

Violence against women is a significant and widespread problem not only in India but all over the world. Women have experienced physical and sexual violence and despite our best efforts this is not stopping and this is a universal problem.

Importantly, we now have clear targets to eliminate violence against women as a global goal and this places an onus on government departments to track progress and address all forms of violence against women. makes.

The Government of India, like other international governments, must do more to hold our government accountable and provide decisive action and resources to organizations and individuals who do little to advance gender equality.

We need to start taking action now to achieve global gender equality goals. This action needs to be well managed and coordinated at local, state, and national government levels. We need more action and our efforts also need proper resources. Also ensuring adequate funding to achieve gender equality and promote women's rights is also a key priority.

Achieving the goals will also require government, business, and civil society collaboration. Women's rights organizations and networks must be actively consulted and involved in the implementation and monitoring of the goals.

Governments should recognize the connections between the Global Goals to ensure effective progress and minimize the possibility that progress in one area will harm another.

But to do this people need to know about the goals. We should talk to our families and people in our communities, our workplaces, and people in our schools about what they feel and what it takes to achieve gender equality.

We and our governments must do more to achieve the global goals of gender equality, ending violence against women and empowering all women and girls. We need real examples of implementation as doing them on paper or merely research and resources are not enough to create role models of what mental health needs at our workplaces. To do this, we all have to practice what we preach and be exemplary in self-care to be more effective as an individual team, and at organizational levels.

Workplace Mental Health:

In my personal view self-care is the way if we want to see changes, I mean we need to maintain a level of flexibility for ourselves and develop our organization. We need to learn how to maintain stronger levels of awareness of risk factors and for that, we need proactive management of mental health risks for ourselves, other team members, and the entire organization as a whole.

The future of health and wellbeing in the workplace looks better than ever now and I see increasing levels of awareness of risk factors and the future as we move towards more proactive management of mental health risks.

Not only does it make business sense to manage legal and business risk, but when incorporated into organizational ways of working, it will enable the mental stability of the individuals working in a team and the entire working environment. For that we have to do more experiments to give it new dimensions, to create the ability to learn, exercise, and be aware and that will help us connect with others with better understanding.

I hold a meeting on the 1st of every month to connect with others as Marketing Head and Project Head. Additionally, I give mental fitness presentations to new members of my team and other teams occasionally which gives me immense mental satisfaction.

Our team, as an organization is continuously serving our customers. Staying connected in a hybrid work environment requires constant communication but we all make every effort to stay connected. To stay mindful, we are proponents of a work environment that enables us to practice mindfulness at work, called Minderma.

To learn, we share case studies we can learn from. We each have different exercise regimens – for example, one team member recently set a goal to run 10km, while I focused on jogging and walking sessions each week.

Wayhead Workplace Your organization's work and Wayhead events fit me well as a professional. They are: learning and connecting. Actively participating with my community at Way Ahead Workplace is my own way of implementing self-care and, of course, sharing opportunities to increase reach and impact with the rest of my team.

It is important that we work together as like-minded individuals in a community to ensure that mental health is a collective responsibility and we cannot move forward without it.

Remote Work and the Future of Work:

Until recently, the idea of remote work or what you call working from home was like "work happy hours". I was a field worker in marketing so COVID-19 I never thought I could be the one who would be working from home most or all of my working time.

Since 2020 the workplace for me has changed. During the global lockdown, it forced most of us barring essential workers to accept the challenge of remote work. I had to set up home offices and adjust to virtual meetings and online work ethics and I am glad I adjusted to that.

At present nearly 20% of workers in Australia work remotely from home. You know like all other things working remotely has its own minus and plus points but what I feel is that it's going to be the future of work where it's possible, especially in IT, management, and marketing.

I see the pros and cons of working remotely and feel I can sleep and get up at my will and go to park or mall more than I did before the pandemic. But what I feel is that flexibility is at the top of the pros list for me. I can use the spare time that I save from traveling time to spend with my loved ones and more personal care.

I can say remote jobs allow flexible hours, but then it all depends on what job you do but if you work on a computer you can manage your day-to-day activities with more flexibility. I can now see more people with disabilities getting the benefit of working from home. Besides these commuting, has become easy, you can eat food easily and people with small children find childcare easier. Overall I see remote work is going to stay as more companies and people are adopting to this work culture.
