Poetic Film Review: Reefer Madness (1936)

In the era of moral panic and fear,
Came a film that would soon be revered,
"Reefer Madness" was its name,
A tale of marijuana's deadly game.

Dr. Carroll warned of the dangers ahead,
As teens fell into a drug-induced dread,
Parties and swing music lured them in,
Leading to a life of chaos and sin.

But as time passed and views evolved,
The film found new life, problems solved,
A cult classic born from unintended comedy,
Mocking the hysteria of anti-drug policy.

Gasnier's direction kept the pace tight,
With a cast that brought the story to light,
Though preachy and over-the-top it may be,
"Reefer Madness" remains a piece of history.

So let us remember this film of old,
A cautionary tale, or so we're told,
Of how fear and propaganda can deceive,
And how a simple plant can make us believe.
