Poetic Film Review: The Tunnel (Transatlantic Tunnel, 1935)
In the depths of the ocean, a tunnel was built,
Connecting two nations, a dream fulfilled.
The Transatlantic Tunnel, a feat of engineering,
A vision of peace, a world without fearing.
MacAllan, the engineer, with a grand plan in mind,
To unite the world, leaving no one behind.
But as he toiled away, his family did suffer,
His wife grew ill, his son faced tough buffer.
The film of the future, with technology so grand,
Predicting TV and video, a futuristic land.
But despite the spectacle, the plot fell short,
Melodrama and love triangles, a familiar retort.
With Anglo-American friendship at its core,
The Tunnel tried to be something more.
But lacking in substance, it failed to impress,
A curiosity for fans, nothing more, nothing less.
Though the film may not have hit the mark,
It still remains a relic, a piece of art.
A glimpse into a world that could have been,
A reminder of what was, and what could have seen.
