Two Cats and A Monkey

Once upon a time, in a quaint village, two cats lived as close friends. They played together, slept side by side, and shared their days. But one day, hunger gnawed at their bellies, and they spotted a piece of bread lying nearby. Their friendship was tested as they both claimed ownership of the bread.

The first cat declared, “I found it first, so it’s mine!”

The second cat echoed the same sentiment. Their disagreement escalated into a heated argument, and neither was willing to yield.

As fate would have it, a monkey perched on a nearby tree observed their squabble. His mischievous mind saw an opportunity. He approached the cats, his eyes gleaming with cunning.

“Why quarrel?” the monkey asked. “I can help you divide the bread equally. I have a scale.”

Both cats were intrigued. The monkey fetched his scale and placed the two unequal pieces of bread on each side. He deliberately skewed the balance, ensuring one piece was heavier.

“See,” the monkey said, “this piece is bigger. Let’s make them equal.”

He broke off a bit from the larger piece and ate it. The cats watched, puzzled but hopeful.

The monkey continued his trickery. Every time the scale tipped, he nibbled from the heavier side. The cats grew more anxious, realizing they were being duped.

In the end, the monkey devoured a significant portion of the bread, leaving the cats with mere crumbs. They exchanged glances, defeated and betrayed.

And so, the monkey vanished into the trees, chuckling to himself. The cats learned a valuable lesson—the cost of their quarrel was a feast lost to cunning deceit.
