Strolling Around The Garden
The night before they are almost ready and the next morning they are past prime. They grow up so fast. I guess this one gets to turn into zucchini bread :) I'm really not disappointed by that.
The butternut squash is comin' on strong.
Cucumbers Galore! Not a bad thing especially the way my kids eat pickles.

These marigolds are 4 feet tall! I never knew any variety could get that tall. The seed packet said 2 feet.
May as well grab a few things while I'm strolling.
In the past I haven't had much luck with cabbage but it seems to be doing great this year.
We are gonna have SOoo many tomatoes!
These blackberries have already been providing us with a steady supply of jam. Looks like many more jars to come.
Spaghetti Squash will be ready before we know it...YUM!
I'm starting to think these onions are gonna pop out and walk to the kitchen all by themselves.
You can never have enough Yellow Crookneck Squash.

Hey things look good. I'm still waiting for that first cucumber. I messed up with them this spring and got a late start. A couple more days I think. I need to figure out a place for some blackberries.
I am actually surprised we have so many cucumbers this early. I planted to early and got caught with a frost. Luckily i had some already going in the greenhouse to replace a few.

Thanks. My entire property is only a tenth acre and would guess about a third of the property is garden. House and garage are on about half of it. We do a lot of succession planting and trellis growing along with permaculture practices to get high yields.
Very cool! There is the Dervaes family in Pasadena does urban homesteading to the extreme. I saw a PBS special about them years ago about how they raise thousands of pounds of food a year. They we're the first that got me into following homesteading in general.
They were a big influence on me as well. I really never thought about doing it right where I was at in town and always dreamed of getting a bunch of acres in the country. When I seen there documentary on Youtube called "Homegrown Revolution" It convinced me I could do it right where I was. That was 5 years ago.
What a great productive garden you have. Do you do a lot of Hay mulch around the onions, or just enough to tamp out weeds.
I would love to see an overview or your garden, I'm curious how you are using the stones. Pathways or a border?

Thanks. The mulch around the onions is a mixture of straw, wood chips and dried comfrey and it was a couple inches thick when I first put it down but as you can see from the picks it has been absorbed into the soil quite a bit, it helps with weeds, moisture retention and fertility of the soil. The stones you see in some of the pics are the gravel pathways alongside one of my gardens and the vines are coming out into the walkway but I don't mind, I just train them along the sides so the aren't in my way.
