Short Trip to Montreal

in #travel5 years ago

Hi, Dear Stemmit community,

My last weeks in Eastern Canada have been very interesting and today I would write about my short trip from Toronto where I used to live. Caught the bus in the late night I spend some hours on the bus and arrived in the early morning in Montreal. Too early to check in but enough to leave my stuff in my accommodation and start to discover the city. The first location to visit was the Mont-Royal park, on time to reach the top through paths and staircases and see the view during the sunrise.

And below a raccoon looking for food

Actually not very warm in the morning but enough to walk inside the park in the t-shirt and check if it was possible to see some birds or other local animals.

None of them shows up except for that hungry raccoon. While coming back to the downtown the weather becomes warmer and the idea is to walk through it, clean, tidy and elegant with a combination of old buildings, churches, and skyscrapers.

And for what concern churches, coming to Montreal, if you like architecture you cannot miss the Notre Dame of this city.

Named like the one in Paris but blue-colored and with stars represents an evident difference. Keep walking toward St.Helen Island and visit Stewart Museum with its two floors dedicated to the history of the island hundreds of object witness of the events occurred in the past. The Amerindians presence in St.Helene island observed by the explorer Samuel De Champlain. America before the 1492 arrival of Colombus and after his arrival. The voyage of Jacques Cartier, the first settlement in the new France (nowadays Quebec) and the influence of European to understand the local history as mentioned in this museum.

I keep walking around the green the biosphere environmental museum and the formula one circuit Gilles Villeneuve.

After spending some months in Toronto was very interesting to visit part of the Canada Francophone, I would stay longer but my work permit did not allow me to stay for more than six months. I wish I could understand more the differences between French and Quebecois. I like languages too as well as traveling.
