Short bit on megastructures / 关于巨型建筑的简短思考
Not unlike Brutalism, arts of futuristic megacities or from civilizations outer space (human or otherwise), often involve somber, still and lifeless landscapes. It is possible that as technology advances further and the size of our buildings gets bigger, nature draws back from these places and each individual feels more and more like a simple tiny cog in a gigantic machine.
Architecture, which is the art of shaping our environment, not only has practical uses for ourselves but because it is where we live and how we go moving around, it directly influences or worldview and frame of mind. Thus it is said to be the most important art of all.
How could we deviate from what may come? Why is it that despite living in an age of progress as we're constantly told, depictions of the future are frequently gloomy?
Following is a non-exhaustive set of pictures from concept artists demonstrating just this. Possible futures with cities and lands abandoned from life, isolation, eery scenes and high-tech slums.
